During my time studying and working, some of the most valuable life lessons/skills that I have collated are those of Business and Business Management. With the skills I have already taken on board, I have since started my own first business. Learning the fundamentals of business and business management has led me to start my life and my career in the way that I want. However, more in depth studying of these fundamentals as well as more advanced aspects of the subject would allow me to take my own personal ventures to the next level. As this is the path I would like to go down, this is why I would like to study Business/Business Management at university.
During my time studying, I have completed a BTEC in enterprise. Teaching me the basic fundamentals of business. I am also currently working on a Level 3 Extended Diploma for Music Performance and Production. On the course we have not only worked on the writing and performing of our own music, but we have also looked into event production. Planning, funding and producing our own sold out music event. These are valuable skills that can be transferred down many different avenues.
Since mid 2022 I have been working a private surgery clinic. My job role is Receptionist and Patient Coordinator. For the time that I have been working there, I am the first face that people see when they enter the clinic. While doing the jobs such as checking people in and out, and re arranging appointments, I have also been able to shadow and work with the Founder of the company. From this, I have taken plenty of information about what it takes to run a business, and how it can be done in the correct way. Since that point I have been given extra responsibilities. As well as my current job, I am now in charge of dealing with stock and setting up promotions for both our new and regular customers. Being in and around a business environment has led me to develop a good sense of how things work, further expanding my desire to study the subject at university. For multiple years I have also worked as an actor. Working on projects for the BBC and ITV. My time as an actor has opened my eyes to the precise planning it takes to run a successful business. Learning how even small problems can offset a schedule and potentially become catastrophic for the whole project. Working on these projects has led me to work with many different people from all backgrounds. While it is a high pressure environment, the life skills you take from working on projects like this are priceless.
Since starting college, I have also founded my own company. BULC Events, a company that specialises in House music club nights. Me, alongside the co founder, have been in charge of planning, funding, promoting and producing our own events. We put on our first night in mid August, and made over 50% profit, having 350 people attend the venue. We have plans to take this forward and expand our company into something much bigger. BULC allows me to utilize the skills I have learnt during my time studying and working. If I could do this at university, I would be able to apply my extended knowledge to not only this business, but other business ideas I have.
