Our Setlist

As well as planning, setting up and putting on the event, the level 3 extended students also have to preform a set of our own. These tracks were not chosen by us, but we had some input in whether we liked the tracks chosen or not. We have chosen to do 2/3 songs. We will most likely go with 2, as we need to focus more of our time and energy on putting the event on. I will be playing keys for all of these songs. This is the set list we have been assigned.

I Wish- Stevie Wonder

This is the first track we have been assigned. The track by the American singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder was released in 1976 as the lead single of his eighteenth studio album “Songs In The Key Of Life”. This also came out in 76. The groovy Funk/Pop song focuses on how Stevie would like to relive his childhood. He wish he could revisit this time in his life as it clearly holds special meaning for him. A lot of meaning is behind this iconic track.

This track is super fun to play. As fun to play as it is to listen to it. The song holds so much power and soul that you cant help but enjoy your time listening to the track. As I said, this has been very fun to play. We have done a couple of rehearsals so far, and this has been the standout track. I think it will give nice contrast to the other tracks that are in the set list. Something a bit different, a breath of fresh air. I cant wait to hear the track when it has finally come together. This is mt favorite track on our set list and the most fun to play by far.

Aeroplane- Red Hot Chili Peppers

This is not my favorite RHCP song by any means, but it is still a good track. The track is from the iconic bands sixth studio album “One Hot Minute” which was released in 1995. It was the third track on the album and had a music video that accompanied its release. The album was released on Warner Bros and every member of the band was down on the writing credits. The song had a great reception when played on the “One Hot Minute” tour, but was not played much after that following the departure of Dave Navarro.

This song seems to be more our style. It is not my favorite to play, but it seems to click more than the Stevie wonder track. The couple times we have rehearsed this song have been great. The track feels good to play and sounds great. It is definitely a great addition to our set list and should be very affective. It’s a well known song with some room for audience participation. That means it should be a hit with the crowd.

Mark Ronson- Uptown Funk

Many people believe that this track belongs to Bruno Mars, when in fact it belongs to British songwriter/producer Mark Ronson. Mark has worked with some huge artists such as Bruno, Dua Lipa,Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse. Mark is completely to thank for this iconic song. The track was released in 2014 and prominently features the iconic Bruno Mars.

This is the third, and final, track that we will be playing. This is if we get around to doing so. It may be a bit of a push to add this track into the set with so little time. We have not began rehearsing the track yet. If we have the time, i’m sure this will be a great addition to the set and finish of the show nicely. However, I would rather not do it if we don’t have it perfect. This track is so iconic and we want to do it justice.

We have three different tracks here, all with different styles. I like the choices of songs and I think it compliments our playing style very well. I hope we can get these tracks nailed so the audience can enjoy them as much as they can.
