Event production is the creative execution of an event. Event production is relied heavily upon before the event, during the event and after the event. It requires skill and meticulous planning to make sure the event is the best it can be. This will be our job during project 1. We will come together and work as a collective to plan, and execute an event to its best standard.
There are many different things that need to be well thought out to have a successful event. Each one of us in the Level 3 Extended course have been assigned a specific role to get this done efficiently and correctly. With us having such a short time frame to have this event put on, splitting up the responsibilities will help us massively. I will talk about my specific role at on a different page where I will dedicate time to research what I need to do, and how I can do it to a good standard. Below I will talk about what makes a good event, and how we can make sure our gig follows the same blueprint.
CREATIVITY: we need to make sure our event has its own points of interest and is not a copy of an event that has already taken place. To do this we will need to come up with our own selling point. What is our selling point, What makes us different, What should someone come to our event and not someone else’s? For this we will need a certain amount of creativity, luckily enough we have a group of very talented creative people working on this, so this shouldn’t be a problem. We plan to make our event different to the ones that have taken place in college. How? we are not sure yet. But the progression and planning of the event will be shown on a different page. Creativity is key.
ENTERTAINMENT: This comes alongside creativity. The more creative and well thought out an event is, the more an audience will enjoy it. Although we have many talented musicians playing at this event, we can not fully rely on them to carry the event through. We need other things going on such as interesting light shows and a eye-catching stage design. These are all contributing factors to how entertaining a gig is. With the small budget we have, it is not possible to go overboard and do something big. But little additions to the foundation we already have can make it a great and fun event for all.
SERVICE: The gig itself will take place, and I’m sure it will be great, but service before, after and throughout the gig is also very important. When we are not on stage, we will be waiting to help the attendees with anything they may need or any questions they may have. We plan to serve refreshments before the gig which will help feel the audience feel more relaxed and comfortable. Good service is a vital past to any gig. This is all the way from stewards, to catering staff, to lighting and sound technicians.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: as always, with any event that takes place, health and safety should be number 1 concern. We plan to create risk assessments to make sure we are covered for any form of altercation or incident. By having this risk assessment, it shows that we are prepared for the worst to happen. NOT that we would want it to in any case. Health and safety is the number one concern for us , and that goes for our staff, attendees and musicians. We will work hard to make sure this event is a happy and safe environment far all. People should go to a gig to enjoy themselves, not worry about their wellbeing.
If we think about all of these categories and make sure they are done properly, we should have a really successful event on our hands. The next job is to start planning the event and setting the wheels in motion. It will be a big task, but with proper planning, it should run smoothly and be a great night for all.
