Creating The Track

On this page I will go through, step by step, how I made this track. I believe that this is my best work yet. The track carries a consistent and professional sound from start to finish. I believe that with the right promotion, this track could be of good size, and maybe even get played by some prolific DJ’s and labels. I will show you exactly how I made this track, and what elements went into it. There will be a different page explaining the mixing and the mastering process.

Drum Arrangement
Drums

This is my drum arrangement for the track, more specifically the drop. The drum pattern changes throughout the song to ride the peaks and lows of its progression. Minimal drums on the breakdown, everything in on the drop. The pattern consists of a Kick, 3 different clap samples, 3 different hat samples, a groove clap (pushed far back in the mix), 2 different top loops, 1 percussion loop and a ride. These together create for a big sounding drum pattern, one that is certain to go off in a club. With the kick driving all of the other elements, the power behind this pattern is incredible

Chords
Chords

The next step was to find the key part of the track. This would be the main thing that people remembered from the song, even after listening to it once. The chords resemble some straight from a 90’s house track. This is the type of vibe that I was going for, as I believe that the 90’s were the best era for house music. The chords are fast pace and help drive the song forward. They are a synth chord instead of a piano. That was a choice I decided to make, to differ the song from what has been released in the past couple of years. I think this was a great choice, and the chords are easily memorable.

Bass
First Drop Bass
Second Drop Bass

For any good house track, you need a strong groovy bassline. Something that is going to work with the kick and create a groove within the song. I chopped this bass pattern up on the first drop to add some variation between the first and second drop. This just adds something extra to the song and stops it from sounding repetitive. The bass has no real distinguished sound. I have decided to use a sub bass instead of a bass sound with added high frequencies. This way, the melodic elements of the track are the star of the show and the bass is quietly driving the track behind them. A sub bass also sounds really nice and big over club speakers, this creating a better experience for the people who are listening to it live.

Vocals
Vocals

These are the vocal samples I have decided to use. The vocal samples are more spoken word than anything else. I have talked about the affect this creates on my inspirations page. These vocals create an almost euphoric feeling within the track, which adds a completely different dynamic. There are not many house tracks that have that, especially the ones released in recent years. I have paired these spoken word samples with vocal hits that filter in and out during the track. They are there simply to add another layer to the song and act as ear candy for the listener. The vocal hits and the spoken word samples paired together equal a great listening experience.

FX
FX

Next up is the FX, an integral part to any good house track. I have stacked the tune with multiple different types of crashes, risers, hits, horns and sirens. You will only truly appreciate the work that the FX does when you listen to the song in its entirety. The FX are brought forward and pushed back in the mix using automation. Sometimes they need to be more prominent within the song then they do in a different section. Everyone one of these FX, no matter which space they have in the mix, act as ear-candy for the listener. It is used as something to keep them hooked and intrigued.

Whole Track
UNMASTERD TRACk

As you can see, this is quite a big project. I have had to massively compress the screen so it all fits into one screenshot. There are so many different elements in this track that mixing was a difficult job, this is something that I struggle with already. I have spent a lot of time working on the arrangement of this track to get a smooth transition between its highs and its lows. It was a difficult track to make, but so much fun at the same time.

Information

As you can see by the writing at the bottom of the grey box, I have spent a lot of time working on this track, 46 hours and 59 minutes to be exact. I had the first idea at the very start of this year, and then it was put on hold for multiple months. As project 5 started, I thought it would be the perfect time to get the track finished and released. I am extremely proud of this track, and I hope it shows of in the vibe the song carries.
