Here it is, everything that we have been building up to in the last five weeks. Many rehearsals have gone into this and blood, sweat and tears have gone into making this performance a good one. I truly believe this was an amazing show and each individual in each band did a very good job. The show ran smoothly and was extremely professional. I am very proud of what we have achieved.
Where is my mind- As always this was probably the strongest song in the set. This is such a well-known song, and with such emotion being carried in this song we had to do it justice. I think we performed this song very well. After lots of practice, I was able to play every note exactly on time. This is the song where my keys added the most to the performance. We played in perfect unison and sounded really tight as a band. Everyone did really well at their assigned parts and you could tell that a lot of practice had gone into this song. We got this track up to a really good standard for just 5 weeks of rehearsals and it was a great song to start the set with. The crowd reacted well to this song which was also a huge bonus. Overall a great start to the performance.
Aimee did really well at keeping the crowd engaged while we were getting instruments set up for the next song. It is little things like these that mean the most to the crowd and keep their attention on our performance. By the time we were ready to start our next song, the crowd was ready and rearing to hear more
Island in the sun- This was the song we were all nervous to perform as a band. During most rehearsals, this song did not go very well. However, after lots of practice and fixing mistakes that were affecting the track, we performed a strong cover version of the Weezer hit. This track featured some crowd engagement as well which was a great way to make people feel involved. We could have played this song a little tighter, but after around 3 weeks of practicing this, I was really happy with how it turned out. This was much better than how it went in other rehearsals and mock performances so I’m really glad we managed to pull it off. Island in the sun was a really good addition to the set.
Again Aimee talks during the transition from IITS to 505. This time she introduced each band member individually to allow the audience to get to know us on a personal level. We each showed off a little something on our assigned instruments. All apart from me, who just pressed one singular key. The crowd found this comical which was a good piece of crowd engagement. After this, the crowd was as engaged as they were at the start of the set and were ready to hear the biggest song of our set, 505 by the Arctic Monkeys.
505- As always this was our strongest track of the night. The experimentation I did which the chords added a really nice texture to the track and layered it nicely. We built up and slowed down as a band. The song sounded tight and we all played in unison. What a great way to end our set. Aimee (the singer) had come over leaps and bounds with her vocals and it sounded like a very good cover version. When the drop kicked in we each had a lot to do and there was a lot of pressure to get this right. Luckily for us, on this night it sounded amazing. This is one of the best times we performed this song and I believe it was because of the confidence we had gained due to the crowd’s reaction to our prior two songs. This was a great way to end the set and we played with the raw emotion and arrogance that was needed to pull this off.
Overall, I am incredibly proud of our band and how we have performed. We haven’t been without our issues, but we did overcome all the problems that were thrown at us and put on a great show. It was now up to the other bands to give the audience what they want, and they did so with amazing style. A great show overall.
