Here were setting up the over head microphones, there small diaphragm condenser mics to capture the sound of the cymbals mainly but also captures the overall sound of the kit and gives it more of a natural roomy sound. You’ll notice there both at different heights but there actually not if measured from the cymbals. If both mics were at the same height then one mic would be closer than the other and create an un balanced recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here I set up the mics for Lukas to record his guitar. I placed the SM57 mic on the right of the speaker dust cap as the the most direct sound comes from the outside of the dust cap not the centre. And then on the left a Groove tube GT55 mic about 3ft away to give the guitar recording more room or space to the sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my recording session I used the same mics as Lukas accept putting groove tube vertically in front of the amp and also added a bass mic in the back of the cab because the bass was really weak on the amp and i also wanted a more deeper tone for my recording. For the tone i used a big muff pedal and a chorus pedal and did have an overdrive but it was making the tone too muddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the bass recording set up we used the Groove tube and a bass mic then also DI the bass too. DI is a direct signal from the amp which is good for a quick and easy set up and saves setting mic positions, but i preferred using a mic and stand as i wanted the natural sound of the bass for my recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
