Candidate Name | Clarke Dewhurst |

Pathway | Level Extended |
Project Title | Journey to guitar mastery |
Section 1: Context (approx. 300 words)
In this project i am 1. Aiming in a long time to actually complete the things set in my project and complete them fully and be satisfied 2. Learning basic music theory to be a better musical writer and communicate better music theory wise with other musicians and understand it 3. To learn new techniques by learning and performing ‘Eruption’ with my band ‘Ultra violence’ which we are also performing our own setlist at the final showcase and also performing at other venues outside of college. The reason i’m doing all of this is because in previous projects i’ve focused more on singing, but now realising i’m going to enter the real word and having a job with sap a lot of my time i wont be as accomplished as a guitarist as id want to be if i’m also doing singing. I’ve always meant to be a guitarist and i’m not happy with where i’m at with guitar so doing this project will allow me to progress to that. I this project i want to focus in my stage presence, developing my rhythm with all areas of my guitar playing as listening to my current favourite players like Adam Jones from TOOL, Josh Homme from Queens of the stone age makes me realise that you don’t always need to create complex pieces to make something great, but a great sense of rhythm will help a lot, and also pick attack. Im also focusing on playing without looking more as it looks better in my opinion on a stage and also gives me better feel with the instrument.
Section 2: Research (approx. 50 words)
I will be researching about EVH and his life and career path to see why he played like he did or what forced him to think to play like the way he did. I’ll be doing research on music theory so i can understand it more.
Section 3: Problem solving (approx. 100 words)
If i encounter a problem i’ll evaluate everything that possibly made it go wrong and try not to make that mistake again and then focus more time onto the specific things that need work. If that isn’t working out for me so well then ill ask a teacher or anyone for some help/support. I’ll be looking back at my progress videos to see my progress and need to catch up on anything.
Section 4: Planning and production (approx. 50 words)
For editing weekly progress videos, doing research and completing my work ill be using my Mac, then also possibly recording my home rehearsal guitar parts through an SM57 and an interface but that depends if it will take too much time. Then ill have a daily and weekly plan which will fluctuate depending on what subjects need more work.
Section 5: Practical skills (approx. 100 words)
I will need too keep up with with being time manageable keeping organised with what I need to do with all of my subjects, making sure that nothing has being left behind and all areas of my project are being completed. Also making sure band rehearsals are always organised so we are always sharp and rehearsed in rehearsals and not getting behind on practicing together.
Section 6: Evaluation and reflection (approx. 100 words)
I’ll be doing weekly progress videos which will help me evaluate if things are going smoothly or if certain areas of my work are falling behind. If I notice I’m falling behind on something then I’ll put more time into that area and then also evaluate why I fell behind and try not to make the same mistake again.
Section 7: Presentation (approx. 100 words)
I will be performing at the final showcase my ‘Eruption’ solo and also some of the songs from my ultra-violence. To show my progress throughout the project I’ll be doing weekly video uploads showing my progress of each subjects and the troubles or successes I’ve gone through each week.
