P2 Video Game Composition – Logic pro x

Here is the start of my song using logic pro x. 1st I started off creating a midi channel in one of the preset sections by hovering over the midi region holding the control key and clicking the left mouse button and then selecting ‘create midi region’.

After that, to get the idea of the song, melodies and chords i just played something on keys until i improvised something that i liked the sound off and then transferred it over to the piano roll. I also used synths to give it the 8-bit sound effect that we were heading for but didn’t change any effects for the synth because i was happy with the sound i already had.

My 1st improvised melody

My 2nd improvised melody but based on the 1st one

My 3rd improvised melody

Here i have highlighted the chords that i put into my song which are a\e. To produce these chord i just used the low bass key son the piano and then improvised the bass sound that i liked, then doing the exact same thing but with a separate region channel. I played around with the length of the bass sound as i found a longer bass sound would give it more of a boss fight effect.

Does it work as boss music ? Id like to say that my song gives off the sound of if the video game character was walking through the section of the game and then enters the room where the final boss is and then the fight begins . I think the sound would work great for boss music.

Have you managed what you set out to do? I have completed the task of making an 8-bit sounding video game boss battle song with chords and melodies. But not being able to complete the task of syncopation and changing the sound of the synth as i thought the original sound of the synth was good already.

Evaluation

I think that i did well to say that i struggled to use the Logic pro x software as i have never used it before. I still managed to complete a whole song with bass, chorus, and 3 melodies. But i think overall i could of used some spare time to get used to the software a bit better as i was struggling with it a lot. I also should of documented my progress a bit better so its more clear of how ive made my progress.
