our performance is called Grimm’s life its about all the fairy tell princess and Rumpelstiltskin band together with 2 sibling (will and Carly Marchen) who are also the descendants to the Grimm’s brothers in order to defeat the evil villain of the story (Lord Bosman.) The Grimm’s brothers were named Jacob and Wilhelm were the creators or old folks tales, they created the infamous fairy tails such as Cinderella, snow white, Rumpelstiltskin and many more however, their versions were much more gruesome and we for adults as well as children. Jacob Grimm was born in 1785, and Wilhelm was born in 1786 they were born in Hanau, their farther was Phillip who was a lawyer however he died when the brothers were still children, their mother Dorothy was left to deal with the boys while on low income, the family was in poverty and had many economic issues. When the brothers grew up they attended the university of Marburg, where both brothers studied law, after their farther. The Grimm brothers started writing stories in 1812, they partnered up and wrote the most famous children’s tales of all time. However, were the books always just for the children and were they more nasty then in the books we read now? Well originally, their books were written for mature readers as they were naturally not suitable for young readers due to the graphic and gory details they had wrote. In the stories we read now, the stories are friendly and fun but the original stories are horrific, including nasty deaths and terrifying punishments! These stories were written as a way to send a message and to warn the audience what would happen if they had committed crimes and acted wrong to others. The idea of witch craft was also introduced into the books themes for example, snow white. This was their way of saying that if you were suspected of witch craft, you were going to die! Tough eh? So how bad were these punishments and are they so bad that children were to be traumatized if they were to read them? Well for example, in snow white the punishment for the evil queen was dancing in hot, steel shoes until she died! And in Cinderella, the punishment for the stepmother and stepsisters were getting bird to pluck out their eyes.

So what inspired them to write these disturbing stories? well it was their law professor, he taught them medieval literature and inspired their famous stories, they studied this subject for 13 years and they added this into their books. “children’s stories and of the home.” was a collection of stories written from 1812 to 1822, the books were wrote about many different traditions in Germany.
