Project 3: Context

This is the character Joey Tribbiani he is one of the 3 male main characters.

He is very misogynistic with his main catchphrase being “how you doing” he is very flirtatious and is always looking for a date.

this is the character that I will be playing in my group in the episode “the one where no one is ready” although this episode does not show his misogynic side it does show his childish behavior around chandler as they fight over a chair and who should be sitting in it. This also results in Phoebe having hummus thrown on her dress. Further on in the episode, joey stole the cushions from the chair so the chandelier could not sit in therefore chandelier took all of the joeys under so joey could not get changed for payback joey decides to where all of the chandeliers clothes and only fueling the feud and still showing his childish behavior.

sitcom

the sitcom is situational comedy this is where a show places realistic, relatable characters and put them in funny situations. friends is an American sitcom this is different from a British sitcom as the live laughter audio that is in the show is played at different times and in different situations, this shows the types of comedy that are used in American sitcoms compared to British sitcoms.

British sitcom

A good example of a British sitcom that is relatable to friends is the sitcom Miranda this is about 2 friends instead of 6 however the situations are different due to the different types of comedy’s this is also a good example to show how the live laughter audios are played at different times in a British sitcom.

1994

Friends were written in 1994 when the economy was in recession and was rising from its 1993 low this affected the show as budgets would be rising and the show would be getting more money making it better than the rest of the shows around their time meaning more people would be watching it more.

During 1994 humor and what was considered humorous was very different from today’s society as there was less equality around that time meaning there was more target on things like LGBTQ and the show portrays this although there is no homophobia in the show gay characters are certainly the center of the humor when they are shown. This is very different from today’s society as there is a lot more equality and inclusion whereas movies have more LGBTQ+ characters and less homophobia.
