FEEDBACK
Asia
- Good mode of presentation – polished visuals and good verbal delivery.
- Interesting to bring in the car culture of Bradford as a clever way into the Trend Awares audience.
- It also illustrates how an aspect of popular culture can give people a shared interest, identity and sense of belonging – the presentation really showed that.
- There was some good lateral thinking about the intersectionality of audiences, in that car culture can cut across cultures and age groups, so might equally bring in older white British enthusiasts as well as young people with a South Asian background.
- The idea really brought science to life, which is what the Science Museum Group’s mission is all about – and relating something in the museum to people’s everyday life is a great way to connect with audiences.
- Our only reservation would be that the science and technology of cars is not in NSMM’s remit – our collections focus is on film, photography, television, sound, animation and gaming, but this idea would definitely translate to one of our sister museums, perhaps the Science Museum in London.
MY ACTION PLAN IMPROVEMENT
I need to reframe my topic into media, animation and gaming. I think I should provide more examples showing how my idea of car culture links with diverse audience through media. I should also add interactive elements like videos that relate to car themed films or games. Furthermore I should have not just talked about the technology of cars but also add the outcome of how it would be educational for families and children who grew up without having a car or someone who knows about cars and would be a good opportunity for them to learn and educate them on cars and by interacting with it- it will help them to get to know how it would be like if they ever decide that they want to learn how to drive. If I had the opportunity to persuade them into looking more into my idea, I would like to propose to them how this could fit into cross museum initiative involving the science museum in London since my topic suits the London museum more.
