Task 1: research
MOTION GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
motion graphic designers create artwork for the web, television or film. They have responsibilities to do like liaising with clients to determine their requirements, timescale and budget. They use visual effects, animation and other cinematic techniques to bring life to their creations. Basically they design graphics that are in motion just as their title suggests.
By animating graphics and creating vivid visual effect, motion graphics designers bring films, websites, commercials, and more to an entirely new level. with the increase4 prevalence of video content online, a motion graphics designer could find themselves working on almost anything like any digital platform there is. A motion graphic designer weigh in on the most important technical and soft skills for their role these days.
Most often they use adobe software programs, photoshop and illustrator which are the most common programs used in their creative process and for 3D modeling they use cinema4D because its more advance.
3-d modeling-
most motion graphics are now based on 3-D modeling, and that is a huge part of the future of graphics. understanding points in 3-D space, lines connecting those points and polygons made up of those lines comes from working with modeling programs.
animation prespective-
A good 3-D designer understands motion and timelines, objects can move, so can light sources. the camera which is the view of the audience, can also move. the designer can choreograph complex movements, one element at a time, and spin them off in multiple ways.
organiSation-
according to graphic designers, organization is crutial for both freelancers and team members. they manage a lot of layers and elements simultaneously.
procedural animation-
creating motion graphics can be incredibly time intensive. procedural animation is one way to cut down on that. basically through a simple and complex algorithms, procedurally generated, full animations can be created in a fraction of the time. designers say work can be tweaked, adapted and revised at ease thanks to automated processes.
to same time in creative process motion design software mis increasingly making use of scripts, expressions and coding. For example, procedural animation allows designers to apply predetermined physics to 3D objects so if two objects collide in an animation at a set speed, the results are predictable and can be modeled appropriately.
timing-
timing is one of the most difficult and most important skills for a motion graphics designer. motion design is a very story driven tool and the best stories contain a natural flow and rhythm. A fantastically detailed and otherwise good looking graphic isnt effective if the pacing is strange or doesnt fit in with other elements like sound. the best animators and motion designers learn to adapt their work and incorperate rhythm and pacing into their process.
SOUND TECHNICIANS
common skills needed to be a sound technician are to have strong balance hearing ability, a technical knowledge of electricity and electronics, knowledge of the capabilities of different types of sound equipment, attention to detail and understand health and safety requirements, good communication and also to be able to work well in a team and on your own.
equipments used as a sound technician is a microphone, monitor headphones, studio monitors, cable tester and some essential mixinig tools.
main responsibilities for a sound technician is to prepare soundboards and equipment for shows as well as maintain the equality of sound throughout a performance. also to set up microphones on performers and various places in the theatre. to check sound levels and make sure the equipment is functioning correctly.something to keep in mind is to run sound checks. when something wrong with the equipment they have to report it and or repair it. also to maintain the work areas for other sound professionals such as the director or stage manager before rehearsals to help organise sound cues for the performance.
LIGHTING TECHNICIANS
as a lighting technician is important to take directions and cues from the stage manager lighting technicians work under the lighting designer and master electrician. they are responsible for the movement and set up of various pieces of the lighting equipment for separation of light and shadow or contrast, depth of field or the visual effects.
equipment used as a light technician has similar tools as a sound technician for example; line/circuit tester- to determine whether there is current flowing through a wire and to test for proper grounding. next a flashlights and headlamps are used for a better lighting in the room and have clear vision and focusing on something or someone. clothes pegs are to hold up stuff like a white clothe which also gives a stronger and brighter effect. cube tap and wire strippers.
the responsibilities a lighting technician has to take is to be responsible for the design, installation and operation of the lighting and special electrical effects used in production. from mgcfutures.com
they basically are in charge of the lighting aspects of a theatre production from what types of lights are put in for example how bright or dull the lights are during the show then go from what type of colour suits best and how are they are focused or to who, and overall stage picture.
MY ROLE-DIRECTOR
Directors are generally responsible of deciding everything including graphics editing, camera adjusting, light adjusting and overall the display.
Task 2: planning and preparation
To get prepared for the final result we went the TV studio I’ve learnt and gained many different skills and experiences as we all have tried every role and have been switching every time we finished a demonstration take. I first got the camera operator role. I’ve liked it, and got taught how some of the controls work, for example zooming in and zooming out, focusing and how to lock the camera in place. they’re basic things but very useful when recording. Also I got given a head set which is connected with the other camera operators and the director to have a better and easier communication between eacother. In the middle of a take I got switched up to take control of moving the script for the hosts. It was an easy job since I only needed to move the circle control piece that moves left and right to move the script up or down for them to follow along the script but sometimes I was confused because of the speed I should go but after few tries I got used to it and I wouldn’t mind taking that role again in the future. Another role I took was the mixing desk, it was a bit confusing at the start and had to memorise what each button does but for now i got taught only few because I didn’t need to know all just the main basic ones. I got the hang of it after a bit of help of my classmates and some team work. I had most fun with the mixing desk since I got to do it the directions of the direct but mostly with what I thought It was best to do and what would look good. Some roles I didn’t do was directing and hosting because I was not confident enough to take the job and responsibility but for this project Im confident enough to take full responsibility for my group and I think it will be a fun and great project to do.
For the title I decided we should go for something simple and basic but catchy too. The first choice was “FJAAM news ” but few of our group members disliked it, and we need everyone to like and give their opinions and ideas. So I thought it was best if we changed into something that will be more related to the topic we chose which we all also agreed to do is ‘Movies’, so our second and final idea for the name is “The STAR Show” we will keep this name as our TV show title for the rest of the project.

Script –
Section-1
. Talk about the LGBTQ community inside of the movie industry and how it affects actors. Directors, producers and the people who watch the show they may be influenced by this powerful movement and may want to be part of the LGBTQ and express themselves. And a LGBTQ podcast that has been made for people.
Section-2 . Talk about some questions about the related topic and see if the guest agrees with the answers and the questions the interviewer is asking.
. Talk about the inclusion in movies and how certain roles affect society.
. Talk and explain potential racism amongst the film and movie industry which some people may get upset about it.
. Talk about the diversity in superhero films and how they affect society.
. Talk about why we need actors with disabilities in major film roles and how they would be suited for that role.
. What we could change about the film industry and how we would want to see a better one.
Section 3 – How Movies affect society
- Talk about the criticisms of ‘Toxic Male Masculinity’ and films that you’ve seen that use it as satire
- Talk about the people that use it as an argument to marginalize others mostly women. (BAD)
- Talk about the people that use it to enforce stereotypes (BAD)
- People can learn from these movies and be better humans. (GOOD)
- People can learn to identify and deconstruct these reenforced and harmful stereotypes (GOOD)
- These types of movies can open the eyes of their viewers and show the hypocrisy of whatever industry it’s showing. E.g: The Wolf of Wallstreet, American Psycho, Taxi Driver, Fight Club (GOOD)
i decided to go with intro then first part then break sponsored video and lastly the 2nd part leaving the 3rd part behind because it will be too long and all is 26min long witout the 3rd part and we are all happy with the overall outcome.
reflection-
For the reflection as the director I made sure to make a plan in paper and pen of how the display will be looking and where everyone will be doing their role. I wrote down steps we will take for when we will be doing our practice takes. our floor manager, Finley, is doing the scripts of the 2nd and third part of the show. I have our camera operator/host, Azan, to do the first part which he will be doing. We have our 2 graphic designers, Bailey and Amar to do ideas designs for the show title.

self evaluation:
the project as a whole was a bit hectic at the beginning. I was not sure what orders to give or what role should each have and what’s best for them and for the project, although everyone has given their ideas and changes we could make which was very helpful since it was my first time to lead and control a group. The camera team were really great and did a pretty good job, they followed my commands and listened to every detail I wanted for the display. Where I was in the controls room I had my mixing desk team next to me and he also followed everything I told him to do pretty well and I’m glad I put Jack since he is fast and also knows what changes will look good. My actors were all so good and they did a very good job. Azan had 2 roles, being an actor and also a camera man and eventhough it was too much he did amazingly good. Bailey was my graphic designer and he did really good and I was impressed of his work. Amar had also done quite a lot on graphics and was so helpful eventhough i might of put pressure on him at times he did very well and I’m glad I asked him to do this little jobs. Fin the Floor manager was good too he helped a lot on getting everything ready. I’m very impressed of everyone’s hard work and I really like the outcome. After all being a director wasn’t as bad and I would definitely do it again any time. From the feedback I got I was already expecting what they would say. I agree it needed a faster pace to it and it should have something to it that will catch the audiences attention more. My response to this is that the audience we had for our feedback wasn’t the right one for our video. But I will try and improve that for this type of audience if I get to do it again.
