memories – project 3

here i made 2 postcards (one physical and one digital) to create an overall idea of my theme and represent it using multiple images – i chose the series of images on the left to represent what i will do for many of my photoshoots and the eye to represent what my theme will be focusing around. the text “i’m still the same person” is both the quote i chose and created to look like a collage-style as it is one of the styles i will experiment with in my artwork.

here i looked into marie curie, and the history around the charity as well as what it does, to give myself a better idea on who my project was being created for and what would be considered appropriate. i also thought of some ideas that i could incorporate into my work that link.
For my initial ideas I thought about focusing on books, as they often hold a lot of memories, I thought about the idea someone could have favourite books during their l childhood and country to keep those books into adulthood or even until they’re elderly. This is why I took these images in a library. After doing this I found it wouldn’t be the best to focus on books as they don’t have much relation to my quote.
here, to develop my initial ideas I took photos of childhood objects my sister owns, some of them have been passed down through generations so therefore hold many memories as well as linking to my theme of childhood.
i liked the background being the snow as i like the significant contrast of the snow with my sisters hair. In the image where she is stood over the mark she left in the snow with her shadow, this can be interpreted as her present self looking over memories of her.
I then chose my favourite 3 images and edited on adobe lightroom to make them appear more ‘vintage’ to resemble someone’s childhood. I thought the affect came out well so will use it on future images.
For this photoshoot i really like how the background matches axel’s hair – i edited my favourite one and the same way i edited the previous images shown as i like the old effect of gives as it reminds me of old photos- therefore linking to the memories theme. these images do not necessarily relate to my concept however I will use them for experimentation etc.
in these images i used a higher exposure, I really like the effect it gives and think it is something I will use again in future photo shoots, I like the glowy effect it gives and it really saturates and highlights the pink which I think makes the images look nice. I chose to do a close up of her hand and eye as my concept focuses on eyes and also the hand represents another thing that stays the same and reflects you as a person, your fingerprints, I also feel as though her reaching upwards could resemble growth.
here I wanted to explore more collage like art after researching Ben Giles and other collage artists as a way to see if this is something I might want to do more of or add to my final piece.
I then experimented with different colour filters to see which one I liked the best/which one I may want to use again on future images. I found the pink toned one to look the nicest.
I decided to photograph an arcade during the holidays as arcades link to my theme of childhood objects – they create a sense of nostalgia for a range ages as many people have memories associated with their childhood with them. I like how bright/saturated these images are as they highlight how arcades are a happy and exciting place for children to be.

again, this photoshoot links back to childhood objects, a guitar is a hobby someone could have their whole life. This therefore links to my theme as the person hasn’t changed – their hobbies etc are still the same.
in this photoshoot I attempted to do what I did earlier with the matching colours in a similar shoot – again I like how the red of the shirt matches and blends with the red in the background- I will use these images for further experimentation.
For this workshop we focused on typography on photoshop, I chose words that related to my themes of “staying the same”/ growing as a person. I also edited the words to match them, for example, “developing” is more faded and “moving” looks as though it’s moving through another word .
Here we were told to choose a word relating to our theme (i chose remain as my idea focuses around certain aspects of a person remaining despite how much they may change outside) and find the letters for it in objects/areas around college. I wasn’t in college this day, so I did it around my house.
Here we created a piece using repeated patterns etc. I added eyes and floral patterns from magazines in order for it to match my theme. I like how it turned out as not only did I find this interesting, it also is similar to collage art, which I have been doing.
To continue our repeating pattern work, we then did ink prints using a wood block and ink to royal onto a pattern we cut into foam – I chose to do a bear to link back to my theme of childhood objects.
Here we painted images on rocks, I chose to do a sun but then changed it to resemble a sunflower to link it to my floral theme – then added an eye to link it with my eye theme.
following my work and research on collage art i wanted to link it to my theme by using old images i own and adding them to collages to link it further to my theme of memories. I especially like the bottom two on the right as they look like they resemble memories fading as time passes.
this was my first attempt at making something similar to Tony Luciani, however I didn’t really like how it turned out as the paper tear didn’t look very realistic
here I took two images of either side of my sisters head and edited one side on face app – I also added the filter from Light room I used in earlier images.
here is another attempt and I think this one turned out better as the tear looks more realistic due to me making it blend in with the image in the background.
here I made a piece inspired by Emma Parker’s work, I used different fabrics and incorporated things like old maps and book pages – things that hold a lot of memories and could be seen as relating to a persons youth, where they are from, what books they have always liked etc. I sewed it all together to turn it into a ‘memory thread’
FINAL PIECE

this fits in with my theme and concept as despite how I edited it, the eyes look the same. it also represents still being the same person, the background being the same could represent not moving since your childhood/always being connected to the place you grew up in.
