There are many different causes of dementia, and many different types.&#8217; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;Dementia symptoms may include problems with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>memory loss<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>thinking speed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mental&nbsp;sharpness and quickness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>language, such as using words incorrectly, or trouble speaking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>understanding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>judgement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>difficulties doing daily activities&#8217;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>How is music good for dementia patients?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no solid evidence that music helps dementia patients however there&#8217;s a lot of research that have discovered that there are a few underlying mechanisms, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[2] <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8216;Music can trigger emotions, something that may promote the creation of new neurons in the brain and help improve memory and mood in people with dementia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music activates the brain\u2019s reward system and releases&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/dopamine-effects\">dopamine<\/a>, a neurotransmitter that may help reduce age-related cognitive and motor function decline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music can reduce stress and help regulate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/cold-flu\/fun-facts\">the immune system<\/a>, which may reduce the rate of neurodegeneration in dementia and Alzheimer\u2019s disease.&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that even if it doesn&#8217;t fix dementia, it helps patients feel slightly better and feel almost normal again as it sooths their brain almost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[1] NHS (2023).\u00a0<em>What is dementia<\/em>.
