This is the chord chart for Blue Bossa. It is in C minor for 8 bars and then changes to its relative minor, B flat minor, for 4 bars then going back to C minor for another 4 bars, then repeat. The chords shown at the top are shell voicing’s which are another way to play those chords. I play shell voicing chords in the song Sunny.
Shell voicing’s is when you play only the root, 3rd and 7th of a chord, which give the chord a very jazzy feel.
To make our setlist we took into consideration of how each song feels. We decided to switch it up every song, going from a slower type of feel to a more up beat meaning there would be long periods of everyone falling asleep and then getting jumped awake by a faster tune. I like that we left the Christmas ones until last as they really are the main part for the audience we have since it’ll be close to Christmas.
7th and 9th chords:
[1] 7th and 9th chords are commonly used in Jazz because it makes the harmony ‘rich and complex, featuring a mix of chords including, major and minor sevenths chords, ninth chords and extended chords. This harmonic complexity gives the tune a rich and sophisticated sound, and it also provides a lot of opportunities for improvisation.’
