Hosted by “Unsolved Mysteries” Actor Carter Roy, Parcast Conspiracy Theories is a podcast about serious topics over time and then him and a co-host discuss theories people have had about how it happened. The episode I listened to they were discussing the Tylenol Murders in Chicago and they first tell the story of what happened, incase the audience have never heard of it. They usually cut the podcast into 2 halves, an episode explaining the story and an episode about the theories. This helps them keep an audience as they will watch the first half and then have to wait for the second half to release, which makes them come back. This podcast is not a comedy and is rather more serious and talks about mostly real crimes and actual theories about them.
This podcast was bought by Spotify and then became one of their “Spotify Originals” which means it is exclusively on Spotify and you cannot stream it anywhere else.

Those Conspiracy Guys is a Comedy/True Crime podcast hosted by Gordon Rochford and a suprise guest each episode. The epsiodes are usually about 2hours, however is one episode compared to parcast conspiracy theories which splits them into multiple episodes. Gordon brings on comedians and interesting guests to the show, which will make the audience of these people listen to the podcast and then turn them into a viewer. Unlike Parcast Conspiracy Theories this podcast is more about the comedy instead of the actual conspiracys and is a lot less serious.

I conducted both primary and secondary research. For primary research, I asked five of my friends which type of podcasts they listen to. Three of them said conspiracy theories/true crime, one said comedy and the final one said she didn’t listen to podcasts. This helped me decide that I wanted to make a conspiracy theory/true crime podcast with a bit of comedy because according to my primary research that would be what people are looking for.
For secondary research, I checked the website www.podchaser.com and found statistics on people who listen to true crime podcasts. I found out that the most common age for people listening is 29 years old, 61% of true crime listeners are women and true crime podcasts are most popular in US, UK and Canada. This helped me confirm that I was on the right path as these are the audience the podcast will be targeted towards.
