Task 1: Idea Generation and Presentation

Out of my two ideas I would rather do the short film. I think the short film is better because it gives me more of a chance to be creative, however shooting a short film will be very difficult given my limited budget.

I am not that interested in the documentary, therefore I am not picking it. I just think it limits my creativity and I should have a chance to do something completely brand new.

Short Film

Short Film about two people, one is introverted and one is extroverted. The film shows a day in their lives going through similar/the same situations and showing how they would react in both an introverted and an extroverted. For example, there will be sitting on the bus showing how you would be able to tell the extrovert is confidence by his body language and the introvert is quiet and shy because she is kept to herself and has headphones. Other scenes will include meeting friends, ordering food and others. In the end they meet.

Documentary

A documentary about the City of Bradford. I would discuss the former glory of the city and the recent downfall it seems to be having. I would also discuss the potential the city has and what i would change/improve to make it a better place to live or visit. I would also touch on winning the City of Culture 2025, what that means for the city and what is about to change for the better and for the worse.

I ended up choosing the short film because it allowed me to be the most creative and write something completely fresh. This will also be very challenging as I am aiming for a professional high quality production on a low budget but I think in the end it will be more rewarding.

Most of my feedback was quite positive with comments saying “creative idea” and “unique”. This is why I picked the short film over the documentary because I wanted a chance to be creative and have a fresh unique take on the RomCom genre.

I got a lot of negatives as well such as a timeline, locations, camera angles, costs/budgets, struggles with planning/communication, developing script and finding actors.

The timeline is something I haven’t completed yet because the deadlines were stressing me out and stopping me from adapting my idea, however I’ll be starting that next. With locations, there will be many different places I will need to film in. Such as bedrooms, on the bus, in and around Bradford, some shots in college and on a bench near where I live (where Blue and Maddie meet). For camera angles, I will be shooting a scene once and then again in a different location. This will make the film seem more professional and when editing it will come together and look like a much higher production. Obviously, because it is a college project I have a very limited budget. While this is quite limiting, I should be able to cover enough of the things I need from my own pockets as it won’t cost a whole lot. With communicating with actors and planning out scripts and shoots I will be able to keep an open line of communication as I am good friends with both of the main actors. I have already began developing the script and I believe it should be finished by the end of next week. There isn’t a load of dialogue in the film so a lot of the script is stage directions.
