Task 1 finished

A director is key on a film set as they control the artistic, dramatic and visual aspects of the project. They have control over the screen play and are very similar to a choreographer in theatre. They are also responsible for the editorial content and the creative style of a program. They are the ones with the initial idea of how they want to bring the script to life however have the responsibility of making everything flow and allowing other members of the crew to see there vision. The work of a Television director can vary depending on the type of project that is being filmed and specific skill sets may be required for individual-projects. During pre-production, the director will coordinate with the (UPM) to create a budget, hire production staff and are also in charge of approving locations. Once filming begins, the director will help the artists fine tune their performances and work with the director of photography to set up shots. A Tv directors equipment however, remains similar in majority of productions. (StudioBinder, 2022). The equipment that a director requires for his role can be used before the actual filming of the Tv show. For example the director uses a story board and this is to note ideas down regarding the planning and practical side of the job. A Tv director would understand certain vocabulary this vocabulary consists of words like cut, set and the first action that is called before the performers stat their work. The Director will determine what kinds of shots and camera movements to use during the production. In addition to these duties and responsibilities, the Director’s job is to help the crew and talent to function as a team.

Producer

As well as overseeing the whole production process, your responsibility as a television, film or video producer also involves securing funding and keeping the production within the allocated budget. You may also be involved in the marketing and distribution process. Television producers coordinate and supervise all aspects of a production, from the creative to the administrative. TV producers also make the financial decisions and handle contracts, talent and bargaining agreements, and other administrative details. While producers get to be in on the fun of planning and executing a production, they also deal with troubles during production and keep everything within budget. They are the overall decision makers. Producers will come up with story ideas and hire writers or choose and secure rights to scripts. This is known as ‘optioning’ a script. They decide on the scale and budget of the film and source financing from investors, studios and distributors. A producers equipment consists of a walkie talkie and a script . This is for them to understand how the script is being played out on set. There is no specific vocabulary that a producer uses on the job. The producers role in the studio is very minimal as they don’t contribute to the editing side of the production. However they may add the necessary input and make sure the production has and is staying within the budget set.

camera opertor

Camera operators are employed by television and cable companies, film production companies and video production houses. They are responsible for operating a variety of technical equipment including single and multiple portable cameras, remote-control and electronic cameras, cranes and mobile mountings. Important camera operator skills include choreographing and framing shots, knowledge of and the ability to select appropriate camera lenses, and other equipment (dollies, camera cranes, etc.) to portray dramatic scenes. Camera operators are responsible for capturing the action. They shoot what’s happening, whether that’s on location for a news program or documentary. They know which cameras to use in which conditions. Camera operators work as part of a team of several camera operators all covering the action from several different angles. Some have cameras mounted on mobile pedestals, which they move smoothly around the studio, rotate and adjust to create beautiful, flowing shots.  Multi-camera operators are often given ‘blocking’ or ‘shot’ notes, indicating where the presenters and contributors are going to move. These are then used for rehearsal and amended if necessary. During rehearsal, recording or live transmission, they all respond to instructions from the director via headsets. A camera operator will need to understand certain vocabulary used on TV set such as the word action for example as to know when to begin filming.

My idea regarding my one show is about discussing issues such as pressures on men. This is important to discus as men are not usually spoke about as being vulnerable members of society as the topic of discussion commonly revolves around women facing stereo types and being treated unfairly. I attempt to flip the usual point of discussion and talk about the difficulties men face when growing up and tackling the issues of expectations placed on them by either those in society or those in authority.

This is quite a serious topic and requires a lot of thought to talk to about and also needs to have very attentive and open minded listeners. Once sitting down with the group we all decided to scrap the ideas of doing something informative as normally talk shows are very talkative and engaging with the audience. As a group we came to the conclusion that the best way to be entertaining and engage with the audience was through comedy as its something everyone enjoys and values. some talk shows I initially researched after sitting down with the group was ( Good Morning Britain, and the one show).

.

Good morning Britain is a show in which the famous Piers Morgan until not so long ago used to discuss controversial issues regarding social issues, religion and many different ideologies. Through talking about these controversial topics the show still managed to embody a fun and light hearted spirit that attracted the audience to tuning in whenever it was broadcasted. The magazine-style show includes headline updates at the beginning of the program and at the top of each hour thereafter, then three short three-minute regional bulletins at quarter past the hour featuring news, travel/transit advisories, and weather

The One Show is a British television magazine and chat show programme. Broadcast live on BBC One weeknights at 7:00 pm, it features topical stories and studio guests. It is currently co-hosted by Alex Jones, Jermaine Jenas, and Ronan Keating. Various reporters also assist with subject-specific presenting, both in the studio and on location, or through filmed segments. Originally produced in Birmingham and then in the BBC Media Village in White City, London, since 2014 the studio has been based in Broadcasting House, the BBC’s headquarters in London.

The way these talk shows were presented inspired us as a group to create our own version of what I had observed. However trying to come up with a way of making it original and inclusive to each every member of our group. After agreeing to stick with the comedic entertaining genre of production we decided to formulate new ideas on what our new topics will be about. In order for everyone in our group to be able to see their ideas come to life on screen we came up with a set time for everyone’s individual section. We collectively came to the decision of ten minutes per section. This way everyone has a good time to be able to have fun with their chosen topic. The structure of our talk show will be as follows: Intro, each individuals sections and outro. This allows us to keep it light hearted, short and snappy. Once deciding this we came up with a name and eventually called it Bradford Live.
