Task 3 Editing explanation

I wasn’t the official editor of my music video however had a big influence on how I wanted it to look in the end. For the intro of the music video an audio compressor effect was used called Multiband Compression.

Along with this some brightness pulsing was used to go along with the beats. I wanted something unique and cinematic to kick start my video and I initially thought of a drone shot however, a drone wasn’t a piece of equipment that was available or something I could fork out for either. To combat this I used to a copyright free drone shot over looking woodland area to use as the intro.

Between shots motion blur was added to achieve the smooth finish I envisioned.

Whilst filming, after every shot I included a physical gesture along with the camera panning to the right, left, up or down to make it easier in the edit to use transition effects. The music video was then colour graded. This in fact was my editors idea as I didn’t know what colour grading was. My editor (Harley) used an app/ software called lumetri colour to give that depth to the visuals.

Speaking of visuals, in order to enhance the aesthetic element of my music video black bars were added to the screen to give it a more full appearance. The black bars were my idea as I thought there was to much space where nothing seemed to be happening.

Speed ramping was something that was also included in my video. Speed ramping is a technique used to adjust the speed of your clip, to speed up and then slow down your shots to create a unique cinematic effect.

For the ending of the video studio reverb was used to add a final layer of depth before fading out into black. The studio reverb was a must as I wanted the final sound to fit with the visual outro.
