Task-3 Star show evaluation

This is the Star Show evaluation where I will be talking about the events and rehearsals in the lead up to the recording of the live broadcast of the show.

23rd of January 2023- Practice run

We went into the studio to do our first run with an unfinished script. This was the old one which we decided was too boring, but we still went ahead with it for the first run. Me and my group did some workshopping and came up with a new idea.

30th of January 2023- First rehearsal

This date was the first official rehearsal for the Star Show. This was choppy because hand signals were not used properly. For example, when I signalled the actors to look at the main camera as the advert break was due but they were slow and this resulted in the loss of time. The people in the control room were supposed to play the advert which was supposed to be voiced, but they were slow to find it as they struggled to find the voiced-over advertisement.

Wednesday 1st of February 2023- Final rehearsal

This was the final rehearsal date we got before the 8th of February and I have to say this didn’t go to plan as the person on the mixing desk came in late, the graphics designer had a melt down and left the room, everything was in shambles. It was really disorganised and it was an absolute failure in my opinion and surely my other group members eyes too.

Wednesday 8th of February 2023- official show recording

The time had finally come to record the actual show that would be graded by my tutors and oh boy it went wrong-

. Lack of communication

. Lack of preparation on some parts of the show

. lights randomly going off every so often during recording

. The script was not on the autocue which was bad and no one knew how to work the auto-cue (including the tutor).

. Actors on phones leading to microphone feedback.

. Guy walking in front of the main camera which caught the top half of his head during the recording.

. Lack of audio during advertisement.

The reason why the wrongs above that I have listed in my opinion is because of some of the camera people was on their phones either on social media or playing a game which resulted in the lost of concentration during recording. Microphone feedback was a thing in the recording where one of the actors answered a phone call during the recording.

But there may have been some positives during the recording-

. Great communication between the director, floor manager and camera operators.

. Music was perfect for the intro.

. Actors knew what they were talking about.

Feedback from peers after viewing

On the 9th of February 2023 we sat down to watch every ones shows and here is what people said about the Star Show

Leon Whiting- “It was similar to the One Show because it was a interview/conversation like the One Show”

” I would rate this of production value a 6 because it was entertaining with relevant topics. It could have been more entertaining with more comedy maybe”

“In terms of entertainment value for me personally I would rate this show out of 8 because it was very engaged with the topic of the show as a whole it is a mixture of entertainment”

“My favorite part of the show was the discussion about beauty standards within movies.”

This is what Person A had to say they had a lot to say about the Star Show they seemed to have mixed reactions about the show.

Henry Mulligan – “The show is similar to the One Show because it is a sit down discussion on a couch type of show.”

“In terms of production value I would rate this show out of 7 because it was very entertaining to watch and a good use of equipment was shown. The reason why I gave this rating was because it engaged me with the topic at hand.”

“In terms of entertainment value for me personally I would rate this out of 8 because it pulled me in and I was very interested.”

“My favorite part of the show was the discussion at the it intrigued me and helped me understand more about the topic.”

“I think what could be improved is that it seemed very improvised in my opinion I would say the script needed more to it.”

This is what Henry Mulligan had said about the show it seems the comments they made was really dull and not full answers it also was really hard to see their hand writing but I could improve next time with the feedback I was given from them.

Peer assessment

1. Azan’s role was being the host for the first section of our show he did an amazing job at doing it then for the second section he went onto being one of the camera operators really well but mid recording was a bad idea could have discussed it with the director but all in total you did a good job I think you could improve on sticking to less questions as talk shows they keep moving on where as you brought up more questions

This is what my peer said about me – “I think as Flaws manager you did a good job but at some points you did
made us very confused when we were having our first
Reharsalings and that’s totally normal and fine,
The only thing I think you didn’t do well was that sometimes you started to do things on your own without the Director telling you, but apart of that you did a very good job as the Flaws manager :)”

I think the reason why he is saying this is because in my opinion I found it very hard to communicate and wanted to focus on the work.

My action plan

Things to finish/continue-

. Try working harder in communication

. Have a better understanding of the equipment

. Work to a better degree of quality

. Listen to people when told to

. better understanding of the software packages

. using the cameras to record during protest when needed
