In this project I have covered a few element of music and what I have been learning about all through the course. ALL these skill are relevant to the part of the music industry I want to get into.
- Production – I have been producing on Ableton Live. It didn’t take that long to create the beat as I knew what I was doing and I had a base version of it within the first week and a half.
- Song writing – I wrote the whole song without any help from tutors or other students. I had to order the song well especially because of the lack of choruses as well as the track being 6 minutes.
- Studio Recording – I set up the microphone and program to record all the lyrics using all the processes I learned when I did studio work earlier in the course.
- Mixing – I changed my initial plan and decided to mix on Ableton Live rather than Logic. This made the whole process a lot easier. I already had some experience mixing and it helped to be on a program in which I had a lot of experience of.
I have enjoyed most aspects of the project. The production side of it is my strongest skill as well as doing some more research into lyric writing. I have learned some. New skills and adapted that into the track for the project. The new skills in terms of lyric writing that I have learned and researched can help me in my future music production.
I struggled with the written side of the project as the practical aspect of it is more appealing and is something I would rather do but I tried to separate my time into parts for written and practical. I also struggled with the recording on some days as when I recorded a few lines, it didn’t sound like it would be up to my standards for the project, especially as this track will be released onto all the streaming platforms and will be apart of my catalogue of music at some point in the future.
As an artist I would improve myself and develop by doing more research into my specific musical areas. I would definitely take my time with future projects, especially the lyric writing side of things. As a “Rapper” I need to try look at more artists and gain inspiration and tips from their work.
Overall, this was a great project with me stepping out of my comfort zone with the lyric writing and recording. t was a good test for me, especially with the length of the song and the content of it. If I was to do this project again I would try do two or three shorter songs with different flows and sun genres such as trap and UK drill. I have experience of making a lot of different beats so I could use that to my advantage. I would try to write more lyrics and focus on that more than the production side.
