In this project, we will be focusing on the studio recording of a song me and the rest of my band made (acoustic) I aim to get the track recorded, mixed and maybe mastered if there is time. We will be doing this on Logic as it is one of the best programs for studio recording/mixing/mastering.
My contribution to the bands song is the vocals for one and a half of the verses. There are 3 verses all together with the last one being a half and half with me and the other vocalist on the track. It didn’t take me long to write to the instrumental we had. It wasn’t completed at all by the time I wrote my verse to it. It was difficult in some places as the instrumental we had kept going in and out of rhythm.
We originally didn’t want to record to a click/metronome. We decided that we should as it will give us an easier time recording. It also gives us freedom with the icing stage as if there is a small mistake in the track it will be easier to fix it if it is recorded to a metronome. We can also have our own twist on it if we wanted to, for example if we want to take the drums out and replaces them with electronic drums then it will be easier with the constant tempo
FEEDBACK ON PROJECT 2
My main strength is the practical side, mainly the production of tracks and the songwriting as that is one of my passions within the subject of music.
Another strength I have is lyric writing and delivery when songwriting.
Another strength I have is playing some instruments such as piano and drums. I have improved on these since the first project.
The main target I would give myself is to, in future, give myself more time to add research and context for the subjects. I need to add a lot more of the documentation side of things as it has been something I could work on for a while.
I need to work on the detail I add to my documentation. I need to say how I did things and why I did things as it will give a better explanation of my work. It would also help to add more screenshots and bounce downs of tracks. This will show my progress with my work. It shows my learning and understanding of the project and how I can implement the things iv learnt into my own work.
With the producing/ practical aspect I need to do some research on other songs and beats and get a better understanding of what makes them stand out and what techniques were used to make them. I could have also done some more research into different users of Ableton/Logic and into the actual software itself. I need to talk about the techniques I use for my production an what experimentation I try to improve my practical skills. I could pick a rapper/Producer and analyse some of their work and talk about what makes them as good as they are. I could try apply some of their techniques and ideas to my work and see if I could come up with an of my own way to produce.
Overall, the main target I would give myself is to work on the documentation more and give more detail for the context and evaluation. I have shown that I have a somewhat good understanding of practical skills so that isn’t much of a problem. Taking screenshots and uploading videos will help this as it shows the progress with the project. Taking videos of practicing will help as I can look back and reflect on what I did well and what I could improve on.
