Final Project Initial Ideas

Self produced rap single on Ableton Live with lyrics recorded on logic in a studio environment.

  • Focus more on the lyrics
  • make it catchy and make the lyrics stand out
  • promotion ?
  • research different lyric writing techniques and flow patterns
  • research different production techniques
  • think about the bars, similes, metaphors, one liners. Write anything down that could be used somewhere in the song
  • produce a comfortable flow
  • spend a good few weeks thinking of the lyrics
  • research some performing (recording vocal) techniques to help in the studio.
  • different genre aspects for the beat (change instrumentation thought the song)
  • don’t spend too long on the beat as the production side is my strongest out of the skill needed for this song
  • research different artists and get some inspiration from their work and techniques
  • experiment with different melodies and drum patterns
  • stack instruments in the beat if they work together
  • Think about the Music theory
  • Think about slight jokes/references etc inside of the song
  • experiment with different audio effects inside Ableton and maybe research into some downloadable ones that might help the track
  • try sampling something to make the track different. Sampling could be good for the chorus.
  • Use a mixture of ‘live’ instruments and electric ones ?
  • Mixing the vocals after the recording process.

This Project relates to my strengths and skills as it involves producing and lyric writing. It gives me the chance to have the freedom to do what I want at the pace I feel comfortable at which will help me make the track as best I can. This project could improve my skills even more as I could research different techniques of both producing and lyric writing, taking inspiration from different artists and groups within the music industry.

Self produced instrumentals on Ableton

  • research some producing techniques that I haven’t tried or heard of yet
  • look into some effects and hat they actually do to help the beats improve in quality
  • try using different instruments. Different drums and drum patters could benefit the track by changing the whole vibe of the song
  • experiment with samples and try make tracks that suit certain samples
  • leave lyrics out of it
  • try make it as melodic as it can. Make the tracks a ‘vibe’
  • “background music”
  • Research some chord progressions that might cut the vibe of the tracks
  • Use a mixture of ‘live’ instruments and electric ones ?
