Studio Recording – Logic

Microphones – Condenser, dynamic.

Condenser microphones are more sensitive and have a wider frequency response and dynamic range. They are also the best for recording vocals in a studio environment Cheap microphones can sometimes produce sounds from the electricity. They are also quite complex when setting up.

Dynamic microphones are better for louder instruments and for ]the instruments in live gigs and performances. They are good for recording vocals. They are less sensitive that condensers.

For the song that we are recording: We will be recording 3 guitars, drums and 2 vocal channels for the track.

Vocals will be condenser microphones and the instruments will. most likely be dynamic microphone

There will be multiple tracks that needs recording.

We will be recording to a metronome as of we make a small mistake we can sort it somewhat easily during the mixing process after. It may take a few extra attempts as keeping with the click can be quite difficult.

RECORDING

We recorded the bass, guitar and drums all-together at the start while playing to a metronome. We had microphones recording the kick, snare, hi-hats, toms and we had two overhead microphones. We recorded the guitars using the amps and we added some effects before we recorded. It took a few tries to get everyone playing at the same time and at the same speed. I helped by being in the room singling everyone when to come in and out. We then fixed up the guitar as it was slightly out of sequence. We had to re-record the bass for the track to make it sightly more in time.

I then had to record the 3 verses. I recorded my vocals a few times as it was slower than anticipated so I was sometimes speeding up and coming in and out of rhythm with the track. It was quite uncomfortable recording the lyrics while standing up so I did my last run though while sitting down and I felt more confident when delivering he lyrics. I used a condenser microphone with a pop shell to make sure that my voice is clear into the microphone. I listened to it back and each time I noticed something I could improve on. I think because it isn’t mixed yet it will always sound like it could be better.
