1Jack Interview

What inspired you to start making music?

“I had an older brother and that, and so when I was 2 or 3, I had all his old CDs and tapes on the Walkman, like DMXs albums, Gang Star Moment of Truth etc…I was mad lucky I had an older brother to introduce me to this type of music, obviously we were broke so that is all that we had.”

What genre would you say your music fits into?

“I don’t like saying UK Hip-Hop, I feel like labelling myself into a genre puts me in a box. I couldn’t call it genre I just do myself innit, I might do a rock song one day. Painting, drawing, rapping, it all fits into the same thing for me, it’s all a work of art. Genre, I don’t know, just call it 1Jack.”

Who inspires you when it comes to making music?

“Prodigy from Mobb Deep, Cage Kennels, all the legends like Jay-Z and that..”

How would you interpret urban culture/ what does it mean to you?

“People painting, graffti painters, fashion workers. I feel like an urban world is hard to put into words, there’s too many ways urban is present for it to be put into one way.”
