{"id":357,"date":"2021-11-11T19:58:52","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T19:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/10656512\/?page_id=357"},"modified":"2021-11-18T21:40:11","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T21:40:11","slug":"research-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/10656512\/research-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">11\/11\/2021<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of our Moving Image Composition studies we were tasked with reading a section from the book &#8220;Film Music: A Very Short Introduction&#8221; by Kathryn Kalinak to find five things that film music can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"319\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/10656512\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/324\/2021\/11\/51LFE8DGjL.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/10656512\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/324\/2021\/11\/51LFE8DGjL.jpg 319w, https:\/\/digitalspace.bradfordcollege.ac.uk\/10656512\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/324\/2021\/11\/51LFE8DGjL-191x300.jpg 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 319px) 85vw, 319px\" \/><figcaption>Book Cover<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&#8220;It can establish setting&#8221; &#8211; for example, 80s music playing in a film set in the 80s or romantic classical music playing in a film set in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century can let the audience know that the story takes place in a certain time period.<\/li><li>&#8220;it can fashion a mood and create atmosphere&#8221; &#8211; if we think about one example of typical horror film music, we get high pitched, staccato strings which create tension and stress as the audience await whatever comes next.<\/li><li>&#8220;it can reinforce or foreshadow narrative developments&#8221; &#8211; this can manifest in the leitmotif of certain characters.
