In this project, we have covered new ground in community music and professional development.
To assist my professional development, I have carefully crafted a personal statement including details of past work and employment, as well as the skills and technical knowhow acquired over the years. This has been done with the intention of improving the quality of my applications for university.
With regards to the community music, we have built a setlist comprising of jazz standards which allowed us to perform engaging and unique jazz sets to an audience at a local care home. In addition to this, we have thoughtfully crafted a plan on how to teach beginners the basics in our selected instrument, with these lessons starting in the new year. For myself as a bassist, I will be instructing on the bass guitar, giving the students all they need to know to gain a basic understanding of the instrument and play songs themselves.
Project 1 Reflection
Despite not having a great deal of time to participate on the work and update my DigitalSpace page, I did an excellent job of documenting my contributions. This could be down to either having such limited time or having a smaller quantity of work to document, in any case, it shows that I can stay on top of documentation and this approaches something to take forward with me as I tackle larger projects that require greater documentation.
I also had a significant impact once I joined the project. I joined later but, once I got to work, I was a key member of the team. Particularly with helping Leoni who, up to this point, was handling the majority of the workload; my role as a general assistant led to a more balanced team as I did all I could to offer support to others and take on the tasks that were available.
To improve in future projects I must add depth. Greater depth in my research will allow me to expand my knowledge a given subject and improve my understanding, while greater depth in my written work will also help me achieve those higher grades. I can do a lot more when it comes to evidencing my planning and preparation, as well as including further detail in evaluations of my problem solving and practical skills.
In summary, I had a noticeable impact on the project once I joined, and was reasonably effective in documenting my contributions. However, at times I lacked depth and this is where I hit a hurdle so, in future, I can do further work to build on this and improve the quality my written work. I am content with the project and how I handled myself but I know I can do better, so that is what I will aim to do.
Targets
Thus far, I have already completed good deal of research for my final project. However, I have not documented any of this to DigitalSpace. By the new year, I want to have my current research written and uploaded to cutdown the workload when I come to tackle the project further down the line.
In a similar vein, I aim to document work that isn’t explicitly part of a project. I have started to teach myself how to read sheet music and I believe uploading this work to DigitalSpace will nicely supplement that work that belongs to other projects.
