Once again, I am without my claves, this time an intentional choice as I felt it made more sense if I wanted to switch between the rhythm for the verses and the clapping for the chorus. Whilst being a sensible decision, it did mean that I wasn’t as audible during the verses which was quite underwhelming, looking back at it all. Once again, I feel that I did rush through what I had to say, not ideal but thankfully the crowd still understood what I asked of them.
I feel excellent about the performance, and I think the band and I gave a great account of ourselves! My words were a tad rushed thanks to the adrenaline of it all but I am still super pleased with my handling of the audience, they were responsive to me and gave great energy back, which I fed off of. When I was up there I looked confident and like I belonged, this is something that worried me as it was my first time performing music with no instrument to hide behind and focus on, I had to move my body with the song, look out into the audience plenty, and maintain an air of confidence – all things I did successfully. This lead to arguably my best performance yet, I had fun on there and it made the whole thing go a lot smoother and look a lot better.
I had a lot of fun at this showcase but now I need to think of future shows, and how I can take the lessons learnt here into the next performance so I can carry on the good energy. That confidence I had with no instrument is excellent, but this isn’t something I want to happen again, I want to perform with instruments and so I need to bring that confidence and showmanship to future endeavours. This will really elevate my level of performance and show I can be a natural onstage.
