Project 4- bridal, editorial, fashion

Introduction

Project 4 is about fashion, bridal and editorial. We have been asked to research and create a look for each of these categories and then for are assessment we get to choose out of these categories which we feel strongest in to create design for. The clients we would have for this project would be fashion and editorial magazines and brides wanting their makeup for their wedding. I’m going to bring my skills in hairdressing to this project as well as my knowledge and skills in glam and natural makeup. I have learnt these skills from previous courses I’ve studied as some self taught skills. These skills are going to be important for this project as styling the hair is just as important as the makeup and helps bring the look together as a whole as well as the skills in natural and glam makeup as this is in a very high demand for this area of industry.

Context

Bridal makeup is just bringing out someone’s natural beauty or to enhance their natural beauty. There’s many different categories to bridal from period bridal to insta glam bridal. The main part about doing bridal is making sure you do what look your client wants and staying calm and professional as well as keeping your client calm as it’s a stressful time for them. Fashion makeup is a makeup that is used for fashion magazines or runways, it is makeup that’s not worn on a daily basis. Fashion makeup needs to be flawless for the magazines and work with the clothes however cant over power the clothes so that there no longer the main feature. Fashion makeup is about trying to tell a story through a look and images. Beauty Editorial makeup is hair and makeup that’s not seen on a day to day. Beauty editorial needs to be flawless and to try to sell a product. editorial requires thinking outside of the box and being conceptual.

Week 1 – reflection

For week one we had an introduction to the new brief where we got told that we will be looking at and researching about fashion, bridal and editorial. We had to create a face chart and mood board for an editorial summer campaign. In this week we also recapped on james malloy and how to create a professional face chart for are project. We have also had a workshop by Samantha Helen on body art. This helped me as I showed her my face chart and she gave me feedback on how I could improve my look that I then took back with me and executed into my final design for editorial. This week has helped me as I’ve been able to look at ways to improve my face charts to a more professional standard as well as get advice from an mua. One thing I think went well this week was: I designed my face chart and got advice on how to improve it. One thing I think I could have done better: looked more into editorial magazines.

Some targets i would set myself for next week are:

  • Look at more resources like magazines
  • Think about costumes more

Week 2 – reflection

For week 2 we created editorial design and took photos. We also had another workshop this week with kardi blac on how to do drag makeup and we had an introduction into fashion editorial makeup. We also looked at dutch braiding and needed to practise how to do it as well as plan a fashion design. This has helped me this week as I learnt how to glue down eyebrows correctly which will help me for if i’m creating a look needing the eyebrows glued down. I also learnt how to create a dutch braid that will help me with future work as well as can be used for different uses like some bridal hair styles or work for festivals. Some things I think went well this week are: I designed a face chart for my fashion look. I did research into fashion and balenciaga runway. I practised how to create dutch braids and managed to keep them tight as well as tried creating cornrows on textured hair. Some things I think I could have done better this week are: looked at other runways Balenciaga have done. Thinked more about what I wanted to do for the hair in my design.

Some targets i would set myself for next week are:

  • Start practising how to braid synthetic hair into my dutch braids.
  • Look more into fashion magazines

Week 3 – reflection

For this week we created are fashion makeup designs and I had photos taken. We had a demo on how to create a bridal look and started to plan design charts. I started to think about what I wanted to do for are assessment piece as well as looked into  bridal and different bridal work people are doing in industry in my area. This week has been helpful because we got to see how a bridal look should look as  well as looked at different areas in bridal from hair to different styles of makeup within the bridal industry. I choose to create a soft glam bridal look for my design. Some things I think went well this week are: I looked into bridal makeup and designed my face chart. I started to think about what I wanted to do for my assessment. Some things I would have done better this week are: looked more into the bridal industry and how to get yourself noticed in it.

Some target i would set myself for next week are:

  • Make sure to think about costume and hair
  • Make sure you have a photographer booked
  • Start designing what look you want to create
  • Read the brief again and make sure you have done everything!!

Week 4 – reflection

For this week we created are bridal makeup design and I had photos taken. We started to look at what we wanted to do for the assessment. I chose to do fashion and I picked to do a traditional goth makeup look from fashion magazines. This has helped as I’ve been able to plan what I’ve wanted to do for my look as well as thought about hair and costume. Some things that went well this week are: i’ve created my face chart for my design and looked at what i wanted to do for hair. Something I would have done better this week: practise the hair I wanted to create more before assessment.

Some targets i would set myself for the assessment are:

  • Keep with time management
  • Make sure to do skin care
  • Make sure to do hair and costume
  • Tell photographer what type of photos i want

Evaluation

I have made progress in planning out designs for my looks as well as thinking about hair and costume so my looks come together as a whole more. I have learnt a lot during this project. Some of the things I learnt are how to create a dutch braid and how to braid synthetic hair into it. I have learnt how to create a variety of looks that I’m able to use in industry as well as them giving me more variety of different areas in the industry that I will explore more in the future. I have developed a mix of skills during this project from analysing people’s undertones and what makeup colours work best for them from warm tones to cool tones. I developed ways to include dutch braids into my bridal hair designs that I could also use for different areas of the industry, for example festivals or fashion. In my opinion I think the desired objectives for this project have been achieved as well as I think every team member was satisfied with the results from this project. However some things i think i could have done better this project is really analyse the makeup after i finished and make sure everything is to the best of my ability and perfect any flaws that may be noticed for example if my design is meant to be sermetical make sure to look back and make sure it is or if a contour looks to muddy sharpen it up before taking photos. I also think I need to go bigger with the hair as I have the skills to do so and be more bold with it. Some things I think went well with this project is I met all my deadlines and thought about time management. I made sure to use outside sauces like a photographer and taked and asked advice from mua’s that had come in for workshops. If I was to do this project again I would go bigger with hair as I know I have the skills to do so instead of trying to play it safe.

Some targets i would set myself for my next project are:

  • Ask for more peoples opinions of my work and how i could improve it
  • Do more with the hair, think outside the box and be more adventures
  • Start thinking about adding more accessories to the hair like head pieces
  • Make sure to double check my finished looks for any imperfections before taking photos
  • Be more confident in myself and my work
