I decided to do my research on a famous producer called Dr Dre who has contributed to many hits over his career.
He uses multi techniques in order to get the best quality to his liking. these consist of;
- Stereo spreading.
- Structure and Arrangement.
- Loudness range.
- Thick transients
and more
Stereo spreading; Dre mixes his main elements centrally, thing like the vocals, piano, the bass/cello, kicks and snares are all mixed mono.
The synth plucks and chorus vocals are the only elements mixed wide.
The reason he does this is because he used to DJ at a club which outputted in mono and would test how the crowd would react to certain mixes of the same song(s)
Structure and Arrangement; Dre likes using simple but addictive 2-bar piano rifts throughout the song. he also lets the drum and bass loop throughout the song so that the vocals and lyrics become the main focus of the song and grab the listeners attention.
