Live Practice Rehearsal

The First Song we will be doing is by Drake, “Hold On, We’re Going Home”

Here’s the original song.

This was the first ever rehearsal we recorded, we also performed it to the other band in our level.

What I found successful about this rehearsal was that our band caught on quick and finished all the song apart from the bridge and even added our own twist of the song, for instance the original song is heavy in effects and we used the instruments to our bands best ability to recreate that to the point were its its easy to know what song it is by ear but know its a little different.

Another thing I found successful is communication physically and mentally. when I was behind the timing on the vocals, my vocal partner looked at me to help me remember the timing we come in. the mental side of the communication came from marcel who counted us in with the drums for the instruments.

What I didn’t find successful was our stage presence, although I was bopping my head to the beat we was all still and just looked like we didn’t enjoy it while remaining focused on getting the timing right and making sure we was playing the right keys and notes. The issue is that when i’m moving my head around it causes the mic volume to be inconsistent

One thing I would improve for myself is to sing louder and project my voice more while keeping the same octave throughout out the song. At the start of the rehearsal I was quiet and didn’t use the right octave which I corrected in the second line, I would like to improve and stay consistent throughout the whole song next time.

For improvement for the band we should learn how to do the bridge and how to add our own implements into it and know which instruments we should time a drop for it, for instance maybe only keys, bass and drums play through it.

i used this cover by James Arthur as inspiration on how to implement my vocals in our cover.

For this weeks rehearsal, Jay, who was absent on the first now took the second vocalist role while i would switch over to playing the synth adding an extra element with the piano.

What i found successful about this weeks practice is that we quickly transitioned into our new roles and the vocalists learned more of the song than before. the band also learned how to do the bridge after the chorus.

Although the vocalists seemed to enjoy the song more the stage presentation needs to be worked on, and more for example learning the lyrics by heart which will improve the stage presentation.

Compared to week 1 the stage presentation was better and everyone seemed less nervous than the previous rehearsal

As a band overall we need to work on the bridge, mastering the notes and the timing of the song. in the video you can see Cody who’s on the piano going out of time and missing the timing of his keys. mistakes are bound to happen but in can put the band out of tune.

For this rehearsal we moved on to our second song Ms Jackson by Outkast.

Our band picked up this song pretty fast in such short time which is impressive
