The Video above is a freestyle I did.
Instead of just sing or rapping a actual song I wanted to be more creative and freestyle and create something of my own for the assessment, on a MF Doom type beat who is one if not my favourite rappers, he’s one of them.
What I found successful was that I didn’t choke on my words. Another thing I found successful is the word play of the lyrics and the switch up with melody of my vocals. I also added extra things on the song like instruments with another student called Robert.
one thing I didn’t feel like what was successful about it my mic, because I recorded my vocals on AirPods which isn’t the best to record on but it was the only way I could record without it catching the beat on my vocal recording too which also made it sound muffled at times.
One thing I would improve is my vocal level which was inconsistent, at certain points it was higher and lower throughout the song which makes it harder to work with when editing the vocals because when you set the gain and other things like the EQ it sometimes gets overpowered by the instrumental.
The way I freestyle was listening the beat for the first 30 secs and just finding a flow with a word in mind, which in this case was “Karma” then as I went through the rest of the words came into my head for instance when I said “protected by god he’s my full set of armour” to rhyme with karma which I also made sure to stick to the relation of the word since karma is either seen as good or bad and that i’am protected from bad karma due to God.
Here’s the original beat before I added extra instruments.
