Film Music

Technical Proficiency:

  • My usage of the software Logic Pro X was skillful as i composed transitions of different instruments to match the film i had chosen to work with while also sequencing them all well, i also added effects like reverb to help create the space aura the video was giving.

Instrumentation Selection:

  • The instruments i choose consisted of synth piano’s, a drum kit, organs and violins. i picked them because they gave off a ethereal ambiance since the film was about the space and stars moving in a non polluted sky which can be sentimental, so having something like a rock guitar wouldn’t fit the feeling.

Mixing and Sound Quality:

  • I feel that the instruments have a lot of their own space through out the film but at some points the bass notes do struggle and clash.

Automation Usage:

  • I used the automation features to my advantage on this piece, i used an auto frequency filter to bring the atmosphere down then raised it slowly to build dramatic attention so that it didn’t sound repetitive and boring throughout the film.

Synchronization with Film:

  • I accurately synchronised the music with the film by changing the tempo when the scene switched to a sunset scene, to fit the mood from being sentimental to a joyful feel. I also accurately timed a chime instrument to match on beat with the flash as it transitioned.

Efficiency in Editing:

  • The efficient side i did was editing each notes individually after recording them on a midi keyboard, in order to make sure everything was on time and on beat.

Effectiveness of Logic Pro X Features:

  • My usage of effects in Logic Pro X was fairly well. i added drums which sounded out of place originally so i added reverb to match the ethereal and sentimental mood i was trying to set. I also added a Compressor on there to change the distortion on the drums to a harsh distortion to an soft one.

Workflow and Organization:

  • My work flow at the start of creating this wasn’t on track due to me using a loop, i couldn’t really work with the loop and because it was the same thing throughout i couldn’t do the transitions i wanted to on a level were i would be satisfied. So i scraped it, restarted and made my own melody from scratch which allowed me to be more experimental.

Adaptability:

  • My adaption abilities from the feedback i was giving met to target. for example i was told the song was repetitive when i first worked on it so i added new instruments and changed the melody between them and added brought in new sequences of instruments while fading them out aswell.
