Our band Smoke Break were the first to perform for the final performance.
First of all our stage presentation was done very well all of decided to have a dress code of just black clothes so we all look like we are a band and team and so we did we are all wearing black on stage and looked good
On our mock performance it was a bit awkward when we got on stage as we all were moving around finding where we should stand but after that we all individually told each other where we will be and stand so this time whilst we got on stage it wasn’t awkward at all we all knew where we were going it was smooth and fast.
Our introduction to the audience was really good for our first song of the set we just introduced ourselves as Smoke Break and named the first song we are performing short but good. For our second song our singer tells the audience to engage with us by singing if they know any of the lyrics or by clapping to the beat with us which they did. Which really helped with our stage presence. For our third song of the set our singer gave us individual introductions by telling the crowd our name and the instrument we play which helped us with the crowd even more knowing our names would make the crowd feel like they know us in someway and make them feel that we are not just performers but people as well.
we had no problem playing our set of songs one after the other our guitarist had to switch his guitar for 2 songs but he did it no problem as our singer was speaking to the crowd whilst he was switching guitars.
Whilst I was on stage I could hear myself without any problem it wasn’t too loud or too quiet the volume on my bass guitar was perfect. I could hear the rest of the band completely fine as well I could hear everyone clearly we had no problem with audio for this performance.
The lighting of the room was perfect especially for the set of songs we had our songs were pop indie rock and it perfectly captures the mood of the songs with the lighting. Whilst on stage the lights were very bright and it was hard for me to look up at the crowd hence the reason why I stared down at my instrument during most of the performance. I didn’t feel nervous on stage at all so I did not have a problem looking up at the crowd from time to time.
The main thing I need to improve on whilst I am on stage is to have a stage presence whilst I didn’t feel nervous at all I have a very hard time to show that I am enjoying myself it is not that I feel shy on stage it is just that it takes me a good 20 to 30 minutes to get fully immersed into the music and take me to mind-state where I feel like I am in space almost so for my next performance I should isolate myself from everyone for a good hour and just listen to music alone in a room to get me fully focused and put me in the mind-state I just spoke about. I should also imagine myself on stage whilst I am isolated to manifest it into reality, then when I get on stage I will feel completely loose and comfortable and can perform a good performance.
Together as a band we played really well we rehearsed and rehearsed and you can hear it on stage as we made no mistakes at all and played the songs flawlessly. we look at each other whilst playing our instruments when the guitarist does his guitar solo for example. Our singer also turns around to look at us as well this helps our look as a band whilst on stage.
Overall our performance was OK in my opinion, it was nothing too special or mind blowing we played the songs pretty flawlessly but it was mediocre as we played the songs the same way the originals sound we didn’t put our own twists onto it or played different notes or chord progressions to them that would put a bit of our personalities into it. We made no improvisations or think about adding a little something different to it. For example we could of changed our second song on set “Island in the sun” into a punk rock song. but we didn’t do anything like that for any of our songs unfortunately. I’m pretty sure all of the other band members were satisfied with this performance but I am not I am aiming much higher for my next performance I want my next performance to be spectacular.
Watching this video helped me with understanding stage presence more.
