Ableton sequencing

On my first track that I have ever made I wanted to make a simple hip hop beat that is really spontaneous with multiple switches, I wanted it to be in the style of a Boom Bap beat with really snappy drums and simple melodies in a constant loop.

This is the first part of the instrumental it is a cello playing three notes in a loop I start it off with a really short introduction which plays for around ten to twelve seconds. The loops are the same throughout the whole first part it only changes slightly near the end where the notes are held on for longer and the last note of the loop sounds like it was zoomed out when all I did was change the pitch of the note.

These are the drums I used for the first beat above it was a really simple kick and snare without any break downs or switches I didn’t wanted to make it complicated and decided to keep it the just like the basic cello loops.

Right after the first beat ends this really short “interlude” you can say I was going to freestyle on this short beat but I didn’t have enough time to do it. whilst I was making this I was thinking of N.W.A’s . beat switch during their song “Gangsta Gangsta” I wanted to create something similar to that,I only realised I was unconsciously inspired when I re-listened to my track.

This is the last beat switch on the track I wanted to make this short beat really upbeat and colour-full, I also wanted to make it sound like a dreamy Boom Bap Hip Hop beat, I was listening to the rappers “Logic” albums during this time and was clearly influenced my idea and intentions were set from his biggest hits. It took me a long time to create the structure of the song as I re-created it four times even whilst creating this I wanted to re-create it again but ran out of time.

This is my track in its final form I am satisfied with it but not satisfied with it at the same I wish I had more time to create it the way I wanted it to look and sound like. I could’ve improved on the beat switches as they do not switch smoothly and sound a bit awkward, sometimes the drums or the loops are out of time and my last beat switch isn’t on time with the metronome at all as I was rushing whilst creating my last beat. If I could improve it I would create the track using a metronome as I did not use one whilst making this, and I spent a lot of time re-structuring everything to make it in time wasting my time to complete the track. I also wish I used a couple of live instruments to add more soul to the track. Overall sounds mediocre it isn’t done the way I wanted it to be but Im happy with it just a tiny bit.

All of the images above are my other ideas I took a shot at.
