I was scrolling through instagram late at night and Roc Nation posted a music video showing appreciation for Billy Preston With this song being played.
When I listened to it through the instagram post I already knew what I wanted to samples and what I want to rap about. I want to sample the song from 0:13 to 0:23 while keeping the intro for the start. When I found his I immediately downloaded the song as an Mp3 and went on the phone app Band Lab.
I do not rely on finding instrumentals to sample tracks. I use this app on my phone to separate stems. I then send the stems to my self on email and download the stems on the macs and drag them into Logic Pro. Im going to do this for all of he samples I will be using.
This is a beat I made on my phone in an app called BandLab which I already have a subject idea for. I want to rap about wanting to go from nothing to something and express my frustrations about my current position in life. You can clearly hear That there is a timing problem with the loop but I hope to fix that when I will produce this track on Logic Pro.
This is what the beat looks like on Logic Pro there is still a timing issue with the sample which I have tried to fix with tutors but it still sounds out of timing. I didn’t want to waste anymore time so I jumped straight to recording and will fix the timing of the beat much later.
Before I started to record the track I have already though of some lines which I do not have proof of because I do not write lyrics down. I believe if the lyrics are good enough I will remember them if I don’t the lines I thought were not good enough.
Ive so far thought of lines such as
“But right now I am nothing that is the problem Im just trying to be something I have no other option.”
“Well I want all the finer things in life I want my nikes and stripes do whatever I like.”
This is how the track is getting along so far it is no where near finished. We have finished my verse and two choruses which we need another two choruses and two more verses to finish the song. Along with a ton of ad libs that we are going to have to add. I really like what the song is sounding like so far and really enjoy it.
This is the microphone we are using (SM58 Beta) on this track and have decided to use it for every track we are going to do. we specifically chose this microphone because we are able to record our tracks with speakers being played because this microphone does not pick up much audio within its surroundings unless you speak in to the microphone from the top. We also chose this microphone because it captures our voices much better than the other ones. Our voices sound much more brighter and adds much more colour to our voices. I don’t really see any negatives of using this microphone.
At this point we have finished the song with just the last chorus missing. We have finished all our verses and added all the ad libs. The timing of the beat is still not fixed but will be later I just do not want to waste any time. I now just need to add the last chorus, start mixing it and censor the language.
Me and marcel thought we finished the track but we didn’t we added this to the track to add humour to it.
We now added the last chorus and made an ending for it which both me and marcel don’t know if were going to keep
I found the sample for our next track just from the music I listen to personally. Frank Sinatra is one of my favourite artist and I found a section I can sample whilst listening to his song “My Way”
I want to sample the track from 3:12 and loop it. When I looped the sample on my phone it really made me feel like I’m victorious and glorious so after I made the beat I started to freestyle to myself to see if i can come up with anything interesting. eventually after a couple of hours out of nowhere I randomly said “I was destined for greatness when I was born” and knew what I wanted to do next when I got to college.
This is what we have done with the track so far just a couple lines. the idea for the track is becoming more clear and me and marcel are constantly bouncing ideas from each other for this track as we want to do a lot with this track.
Here we have completed a pretty big chunk of the song me and marcel finished our verses so far and are now thinking of ad libs and harmonies for the track the ending harmony at the end of the video is one of the ideas we have
At this point we have finished the track are now just adding little things to it like ad libs and more harmonies or maybe re doing verses that we know we can sing much better. were now going to bounce this track and start thinking of mixing.
This was going to be our 3rd track “Only higher” which we didn’t get to finish. But me and marcel think this could’ve been a really good track
This is the sample used as you can hear it is a pretty political song which me and marcel both felt was needed. This was going to be a track on the ep that wasn’t the same loop over and over again as well but we didn’t finish it unfortunately.
