Second Year; Project 2: Research & Context

Find 3 University courses that interest you… Why? (describe them below)

  1. Heritage & Archeology; This interests me because I love learning about human history and the artifacts that link us to our pasts.
  2. Film & Tv Production; I am interested in this course because I would like to pursue a career in film and tv.
  3. Performing Arts; I would like to do this course because I like acting and I am interested in a career as a voice actor and I believe this links well with it.

Describe the facilities the Universities of these courses provide?

There are multiple studios that I can use and study in which are fitted with lights and sprung floors. There are also laptops that I can borrow/rent our that I can use if I ever need to edit videos, write scripts or do character research.

Why are they best suited to your needs?

I think the main reason I would choose the University of Bradford is because it is close to my house and is the most convenient option.

Monologue

What is your monologue?

My monologue is the “Free Churro” monologue, an excerpt from the eulogy presented by the main character, Bojack Horseman.

Where does it come from?

The Netflix original animated TV show “Bojack Horseman”, specifically the episode named “Free Churro”.

What are the themes presented in your monologue?

Childhood neglect and mistreatment; Bojack was offered a free churro by a fast food cashier because his mother died, which he realised was kinder than anything his mother had ever done for him in his entire life.

What problems arose when preparing your monologue?

I struggled with making the most of my time; I felt like there were more things I could have done with the time I was given, as I learned my script incredibly fast compared to my usual pace and I felt as though I was just sitting around doing nothing when I know I could have managed my time more efficiently.

How did you over come these?

I did not; in future I hope to improve on this by asking my tutors and peers what I can be doing with my free time if I am unsure.

´In what way have you used your research above to inform your choices for the development of your character?

My research for this monologue consisted mostly of rewatching the entire episode to help memorise the lines and also to provide myself with further context for the excerpt. This also helped me to get a better grip on BoJack’s mannerisms and personality.
