Project 3: Reflections

Week 1

During the first week, I received my script and was assigned my role; I was assigned the role of Craig, a middle-aged, wealthy man from London. The script is that of the episode “The Bill” from Inside No.9. We got to work within our groups doing a general script read sat down just so we could all hear the script aloud for the first time and to get it into our heads. Then we started trying different “takes” with each other whilst still getting a feel for the script after watching the original episode. We tried it standing first to physicalize our characters, then we got out some chairs so that we could get adjusted to performing it on something that would be similar to how our actual set may look.

Week 2

In the second week, we had already began blocking out the placement of our seats and the table between us; we had originally set it so that we would all sit in a big circle like in the actual episode, however figured that having two seats on opposing sides would make filming a lot easier and also change it up a little so that it wasn’t a carbon copy of the episode. It went from being set in a restaurant to being set in a café/diner type place. We were all working toward being off script by the next week.

Week 3

In this week we got a look at the recording studio where we would be filming, we were able to see what furniture would be available for the set and to go over general health and safety for the risk assessment. We then got started on practicing without our scripts, which worked quite well. We would occasionally miss dialogue or forget lines, but other than that, we weren’t reliant on our scripts at all.

Week 4

This week we got to filming; I was absent for a bit, so I missed some of the development, but I made sure to attend the actual filming which I believe went well. We set up our furniture together and sat in our blocked out spots, readying ourselves in place to begin filming.
