This is a video i used to get a better understanding of how drums were used in the song stand by me. This video is a cover so i don’t think it was played the way its played in the original song however i like to see how other drummers play the song and pick out some parts that i like and maybe use them for when i drum to the song. For example the kick on this cover i like how theres a few extra kicks and not just a simple one, one two.
This is a live performance of the song and here the song is played a little faster this is why i like this live performance it sounds great in my opinion. The drums sound so punchy wearing headphones i would listen to this live performance on my way to college before the rehearsals and try to drum in a similar way because i just really enjoyed how it sounded. Theres a technique the drummer uses which is called dragging and Simon taught me this technique which im still getting used to with my left hand and there is a video of that on another page called Drumming practice.
For the instrumental i have also created a video on Drumming Practice and basically the whole drum piece for the instrumental was an improvised beat with a fill that Simon also taught me. I remembered the pattern and thats how the beat for the instrumental was created. I dont think i was inspired by anything i just wanted the piece to sound simple.
