Final Project Idea

For my final project i was going to work with Lukass and Jozef only on an instrumental which was going to be a lot of genres put together into one instrumental. Initially i was going to work with just the two however after a discussion with a friend of mine named Robert where we shared our ideas of what we would like to create and how we wanted it to sound at first we had a lot of differences but liked each others ideas as we have a similar taste in music. We came to an agreement and we ended up working together and i thought that i wasnt going to work with Lukass and Jozef until we all kind of dicussed working together on an instrumental later on as a band. Robert had the idea of creating samples which at first i wasnt necessarily intruiged by but i was open to trying new things. I wanted to make some originals as well as using samples mainly to show our creative side by producing a beat playing instruments. Robert made a few guitar riffs that were in the style of funk and blues which i really liked and wanted to start experimenting with different drum beats.

Before i could do anything Robert came to me with this sample which is a song called Nothing from Nothing by Billy Preston and i instantly forgot about originals. when i first heard the beat i really liked it and it changed my view on samples because i thought they would be very basic drum and bass beats. We did agree on using funky upbeat soul samples and turn them into a hip hop track with adding our own melodies and lyrics. At that point i think we both knew what we had to work on. The idea was to make a hip hop track with a funky soul beat.

About a week or two after that Robert introduced me with another sample on Instagram now i really liked this because it was so different to what i thought a sample could be and it was basically Frank Sinatra My Way. I instantly started singing random thinks trying to come up with melodies and harmonies so we ended up working with that too.

Later we were nearly done with both tracks and that’s when we decided it was time to start making an instrumental with Lukass and Jozef so we ended up going to the Live room and that’s when we figured out that we have absolutely no clue what to do or how to start. So we ended up playing random stuff random chords and drum patterns and covers such as Nirvana smells like teen spirit and The beautiful people by Marylin Manson. We stopped playing the song however Jozef continued to play the bass line of the song and the way he played it sounded really chill. Robert then started doing this random solo improvisation which was really nice so i decided to really let the guitar take over and started drumming very lightly experimenting with using the rim of the snare and the ride cymbal. we carried on experimenting and that’s how the instrumental came along.

About a week later we were stuck on playing that so we decided to go with it. During that week Me and Robert had an idea for a third track which unfortunately could not have been finished but that’s okay because we still did a lot of other things we enjoyed.
