Here are two videos of me explaining the techniques that were used in the two songs. For the instrumental HMRC song I’m basically going through the pattern of the song and what fills i have used and why i have used them. For the cover song which is Oasis- stand by me i am going through the way that its played originally and im doing it as a little tutorial i could say because i explain how to do it instead of just describing what i did. I didnt really explain why and thats because the song was a cover so there was little to no improvisation while playing the drums. However i did explain the structure of the drum beat and how to play it because its a repetitive beat. I have shown how wrist movement and the way to hold the sticks have a big impact on the way the drumming sounds. I mainly went through the drumming technique that is used throughout the verse as i personally think you could play it throughout the whole song and just add a few crashes every now and again.
There is a little switch up when it comes to the chorus which is done after it says “The way its gonna be” and what happens there is basically you hit the crash and kick at the same time which is followed by two hits on the snare this repeats three times. which then proceeds back to the drum beat thats shown on the video. This is repeated three times during the chorus after each time “The way its gonna be” is sung.
you will see this happening in some rehearsal videos and you will get a better understanding of what has actually been done.
