Researching: Flower Meanings ✓

Something I think is interesting is how flowers have different meanings and symbolisms based on the type of flower or even the different colours, or how many you give someone. I decided to research flower meanings to see which ones I could link to the theme of nostalgia.

Flowers I might consider drawing in future flower drawings:

Hyacinth: This is a flower that is named after the Ancient Greek hero Hyakinthos. In his story, the god’s Apollo and Zephyr fought over his affections which ended up killing him. The flower that grew from his spilled blood was the hyacinth flower, and this story is why purple hyacinths mean sorrow, regret, and forgiveness. I think while these meanings are depressing, they fit my theme of nostalgia since a lot of nostalgic memories are memories that people regret. Pink hyacinths symbolize playfulness and positive things, which fit the other side of nostalgic memories, the happier ones.

Here are some photos I found of this flower:

Poppies: Poppies are flowers that are known for symbolizing remembrance, which is why they are the flowers that are used for Remembrance Day.

Here are some photos of these flowers:

Sunflowers: Sunflowers are a bright flower that are associated with happiness and summer, despite them normally blooming at the end of summer.

I decided to research flowers since for a lot of my childhood I was surrounded by flowers and other plants since I lived in the countryside. They are also in colouring books a lot, with my favourite colouring books being ones that include flowers.

Hear are some sketches I did based on these images
