I wanted to experiment with markers since I dont use them for my drawings, so i wanted to try them out and see how I feel about them.
Here I swatched the colours of each marker to see how they looked individually. I did this before using them so I knew what they would look like, so I could pick my colours easier.

For testing them out, I draw this floating island that was inspired by a piece from Alex Heywood.

For the water I drew a green spiral first, and then built on top of that with shades of blue. This made it so that there was a green highlight in the water which I think makes it look great. I mixed orange, red and brown for the dirt. I do think that the dark brown parts are a bit too dark, so if I did this again I wouldn’t use as much of the brown for the shadows. The most difficult part was the tree, since I had to draw the leaves. For the leaves, I mixed different shades of green, as well as yellow to make it look less flat.
Using markers was a nice change of pace, since its not something I use for art. I’m not sure if I’ll use them for my final piece, but experimenting with the markers has given me some ideas for future pieces in this project.
