Final Evaluation

For my project I proposed I’d do fine art as my specialism and printmaking. My theme has stayed the same, but I’ve decided to approach a more cartoon-Ish and Illustration style instead of the overly disturbing and creepy surrealism styles. I responded to my proposal by saying I will try multiple media such as working with just ballpoint pens, but I never properly did it.
My ideas changed drastically since I wrote my proposal, I started to lean more into digital art instead of fine art and Lino prints. I’ve documented this by trying out all 2 mediums, the one I liked the most was the digital piece I made.
I’m unsure how to define failure and success within my project. I suppose the best way to define it would be by looking at the workshops and ideas I had.
Lino prints worked rather well; however, they didn’t have as much detail as I wanted them to contain. I think that the most unsuccessful experiment was the ballpoint pen one, I don’t think I’m ready for media such as that due to how much patience and techniques it takes, it also didn’t fit my theme that well. Digital art and traditional pen and pencil worked the best, these were my most comfortable medias. I think they worked well due to how much more experience I have in them, but at the same time it was challenging to produce my final piece as a result.
My working methodology could’ve been way better. A lot of things like mental health and fever got in the way, which drained all my motivation. Time management could’ve been better too as I found myself stressing over things that didn’t matter as much or wasting my time on simple actions such as sketches, ideas and information finding. This affected my outcome quite horribly, everything that got in the way changed my whole specialism.
I’m quite honestly unsure how my ideas connect to my media and materials. Due to having ideas with horror themes, I’ve found myself sticking to pen and pencil more than any other workshops. I think it is quite limiting unless you know how to work with such themes.
The final outcomes were influenced by shows I watched while I was off sick and the materials they were made out of. But my decisions were also influenced by the concept of horror, due to how many horror paths there are.
I researched two fine art artists and recently an animator from whom my final piece was inspired. I also researched the materials I could use and what worked best together. This impacted my final outcomes greatly by changing my style quite a lot.
I see my practice developing more into the digital area. I want to explore the path of animation; I know it is a difficult path to take but it would be good to experiment with, especially with my art style.
