Film song 1 : Earth Angel scene – Back to the future 1985
Composed by – Curtis Wiliams, Jesse Belvin, Gaynel Hodge (Alan Silvestri)
Film was released – 4th December 1985
What does the music do to the scene – The music that the band plays adds to the scene because without the music it would just be a bunch of people dancing, but with the music it gives a more romantic vibe and makes the scene look better. the music that plays in the background when the mans hand fades a dramatic effect and shows the viewer that the hand fading is serious and it adds the effect of curiosity to the audience.
Gestures that are emphasised – When the guys hand fades, the background music kicks in and creates a dynamic of emphasism on how bad it is that his hand is fading and that the people in the picture are fading too.
Instrumentation – drums, piano, guitar (electric), strings
Diegetic or Non-Diegetic – The music the band is playing is diegetic, the music that plays when the fading begins is non-diegetic.
Film song 2 : Blade runner – opening scene
Composed by – Vangelis
Film was released – 9th September 1982
What does the music do to the scene – Since the music is playing at the opening scene of the movie, the strings and trumpet combination brings a spooky yet enticing theme to the scene. When the information about the film starts scrolling on screen, the music deepens in tempo and some sort of bell noise is head. when reaching the end of the information, theres a growing siren noise then increases when “Los Angeles November, 2019” pops up on the screen, there’s also a drum noise which then echos out into noises of bombing and thunder and the trumpet and strings increase with hints of bells. the trumpets and strings begin to fade as the bells overtake them to the beginning of the movie.
Gestures that are emphasised – When “Los Angeles November, 2019” appeared on screen, there was an increase of instruments that emphasised the time and place and bought importance to it. When the scene switched to a persons eye, the tempo also increased and the instruments were slowly removed until there was just bells playing.
Instrumentation – Strings, Trumpet, Bells, Drums (some form of percussion)
Diegetic or Non-Diegetic – The music was Non-Diegetic.
