For my performance evaluation, I chose Maneskin’s performance of Zitti E Bouni at Eurovision 2021. The reason I chose this performance is because of the energy portrayed by the band and the vocal power of the singer.

The lead singer, Damiano David, was what inspired me to choose this performance because of his show of charisma on stage and the energy he brings to other band members and the audience.
In the performance, the lead singer uses his voice as a very powerful instrument and applies a lot of vocal pressure to bring out a strong raspy tone. His movement on the stage was full of purpose and he was feeling the music instead of awkwardly standing on stage and singing. His bouncy, hyper energy around the stage gave a rush of adrenaline to his band and audience members. His communication with the audience allows them to feel the music too and enjoy it to the best content. Damiano’s use of communication is shown in the performance when he yells “MAKE SOME NOISE”. This phrase then encourages the audience to interact with the performers which is usually portrayed in screams and chants.
Damiano’s movement around the stage allows the camera to follow him in many areas, and also gives the audience a better view of not just him, but the band. His movements consists of interacting with other band members and moving with them in a rock n roll way and also towards the front of the stage where he’s seen getting close to the audience and then walking back to the band with a contagious vibe.
The band’s instruments consist of Drums and 2 Electric guitars; all 3 are put together to give off a strong performance. The drums are the base of a performance and keep the singer in time with the band as well as keeping the band in harmony. The guitars both play similar rhythms and both interact repeatedly with the lead singer, they are seen throughout the performance moving across the stage interacting with audience and also vibing along to the music to show they enjoy it too.
The lighting also brings out the band more and is poised at certain angles to bring out a bright shimmer in the bands outfits and makeup and also allows the audience to see all members clearly in the dark stadium. The sound is also at a slight perfection for a performance because it’s not too loud, nor too quiet, and it sets the right mood for the audience to rock along to.
With the drummer being based in the centre back of the stage, and the guitarists on either side, it allows the singer to have more space to move around and also allows more interaction with the crowd. When the guitarists begin to move around, it works perfectly with the setup and the movement of both sides of the stage is almost satisfying to those watching on TV or YouTube.
Their choice of costume is also taken into consideration during the performance and it stands out from the usual glitz and glam of a celebrity. In this performance we see the members of the band wearing flared sparkly outfits, the males having their chests on display. The red/maroon colour contrasts against the bands pale skin and the small white X’s along the outfits brings out a pop. Their choice of matching outfits stand out against the background and the shimmer glows slightly in the light, bringing a magic rock style into play.
When looked at as a whole, the band is full of charisma and their love for rock is portrayed through the music along with their own small ways of enjoying it. Although the group was formed in 2016, they began their breakthrough into society in 2021 with their performance in Eurovision which allowed people to listen to their music and gain a bigger interest in the band.
In conclusion, I think this performance was amazing and an absolute thrill and it is definitely one way to make a debut as a now successful band in the world. This performance has the energy and power anyone would enjoy and it brings out the crowds inner rockstar.
