NSMM-Task 3/4

personal Statement-Task 3

I have always had a huge passion for filmmaking, and creating media content, such as podcasts, broadcasts, and documentaries. I am a versatile, multi-talented individual, with a passion and skill for writing, directing, and acting in short films and other media projects. I am experienced in working within a variety of roles including, camera operator, floor manager, lighting technician, and boom operator. Thanks to the work placements I have gained a vast amount of experience in media, for example, developing a marketing strategy specifically for my age group, for the National Science Media Museum.

My favourite placement was a two-week trip abroad to Aruba, where I made a documentary about the beautiful and mesmerising culture and the art of the island. I was entrusted and honoured to interview the biggest and most important artists on the island. I also learned how to use the professional equipment, such as lapel mics, cameras like the Sony A7 and adequate tripods for different surfaces. Additionally, I worked as a boom mic operator, lighting and camera operator for a range of different interviews. This experience gave me a lot of knowledge about working in the industry whilst representing our college overseas in a whole new country with a diverse and rich culture, I gained professionalism, become more responsible, and did not break the trust that the tutors and college had placed in me. The project was a success because of my resilience and dedication in the team. I easily adapted to conflicts and the unfamiliar environment.

My work experience in Aruba helped me gain sufficient experience in film making. Which lead me to make two short films, through which I gained a lot of knowledge in filmmaking. My most acclaimed project was a thriller I wrote, directed, acted, and produced by myself, titled “Johnny the Traitor.” When working on the script, I showed parts of it to friends and family to get different opinions and a deeper understanding of how the audience feels about my short film. I had two camera operators whom I guided and worked with, I succeeded as a director and guiding my team because I am a confident person and a natural leader, which makes me ideal at directing, acting, and teamwork. The short film was an ambitious project, which is something I always do, aiming high and challenge myself to be the best version of me. Tutors and students were surprised by the short film and its unique storyline, along with its unexpected plot twist.

I created a podcast with two episodes called “The Rainbow Podcast, (TRP)” which focused on LGBTQ+ social issues and mental health. I designed the logo and the branding, using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Illustrator, which I am proficient in using for my projects. I chose to record the podcast in a studio at college, using professional equipment to ensure it was to industry standard. It had a substantial impact and discussed deep topics with a positive vibe, which helped deliver my message effectively. This project was highly acclaimed by both tutors and students.

I am skilled at adapting and learning in an unfamiliar environment, and socialising with people. Which shows that I will adapt quickly at university. I have travelled a lot since I was a child. I was born in Pakistan, moved to Spain, and then to the UK and I am fluent in Spanish, English, and Urdu.

I love collaborating with others on projects. I have also worked as an actor in other short films and ads that my friends made. Films are a pillar in my life, and filmmaking in an art in my eyes, and I want to dedicate my life to this art.

My passion, understanding, and dedication, with filmmaking makes me a great candidate. I am thrilled at the prospect of studying at your institution and contributing to its vibrant filmmaking community with my knowledge and expertise.

Personal Career Plan

My personal goal in life is to work in films, specially to make films, I have planned to work in modelling and marketing to learn and gain more experience in the industry and move to the film industry when I have enough experience, knowledge, and contacts, I want to write and direct films and work in them as an actor

Task 4-Branding

I adapted my idea to the feedback I received fro the NSMM, I think the media museum could work with independent artists and pay them with work experience rather then having a big team of performers which can be difficult to arrange continuously

I made this posters with the intentions of showing the rich south asian culture that there is in the film industry of south Asia, the colours I chose were black and gold because they match well and look professional,

Interview Feedback

I demonstrated a lot of professionalism and confidence with this interview, I felt confident and was very comfortable during the interview and received a very positive feedback which Im proud of, this whole project has helped me a lot to feel more confident and has showed me that I had a hidden passion for marketing, I enjoyed to create a marketing plan even tho the writing was so tedious to do, I learned a lot about writing and how to organise my time to work efficiently in written works
