Mixing

For the track as a whole, i made it inside of FL Studio 21 and the only thing i recorded was the drums, as it was the best thing i could record with such little time and with my Musical skillset being only producing, it was the best i could do, but despite that, i did a fairly good job of it and it was produced well too and in such a small amount of time too!

The track “Flying on Clouds” consists of being two different genres at once because it just kind of felt right and it was a creative idea as the lead played well in both genres when i tried it out. the BPM switches from 84 to 100 and the genres are Indie Lo-Fi and Synthwave/Chillwave

The mix only uses 8 Mixing Tracks for the song, each with different purposes and they each have their own Automated Sidechain, with it being Subtle too, so then it isnt too noticeable but cant be heard

The project for “Flying on Clouds”

The first part of the song is two different parts, 1 variation and a 2nd variation, with both the Meowsynth Lead and the E-Piano changing its chord pattern.

The drums are two different types of drums, a simple, basic sounding drum pattern with some off beats, and then the 2nd part of the song sounding a lot more complex (they arent as complex as they sound) and they sound like drums from the 80s just filtered out to suit the Genre style.

The bass has two different patterns for the first half of the song, one full, 4 bar pattern and another one that has the end of the bass pattern one octave higher every 8 bars.

the last thing to mention about the first half of the song is the Pluck FX you can hear, basic pluck with reverb that is just one note for both patterns, two different notes.

For the breakdown before the 2nd half of the song, its just the basic drums from the first half but it has a tempo change from 84 to 100 BPM before the 2nd drop and as a filler, i put a small riser in there.

The Synth used for the chord pattern is one i made from scratch inside of Serum.

I even named the Pre-set i liked it that much 😀

It is a Saw Wave + Square Wave Synth with Fine Tuned Automation and a Wob like Filter Automation for that nice Chill, Spacey vibe, the resonant automation makes it even better by giving it that certain 80s synth feel.

The bass for the 2nd half is also a Serum Pre-set i made from Scratch.

I named this too cos it sounded cool and i really liked it

This Bass Pre-set uses a Sawtooth + Saw Wavetable for that basic analog sound from older synthesizers, it is a Pluck Bass, very short Decay and Attack on the Volume Envelope to make sure it “plucks” and it uses a Filter Cutoff Automation inside of Serum by using Envelope 1.

I also added a Variation to the pluck to suit the 2nd part of the song and added 4 notes to both patterns instead of it just being one note per pattern

for the intro i use a simple Automation Clip for the E-Piano so then it fades in and doesnt hit you like a brick when everything else starts playing and for the outro and Breakdown i use a Tape Stop effect (mostly used in Lo-Fi and Hip-Hop) and as an extra, i changed the Temp back to 84 BPM towards the end simply because its a nice way to finish the song, nice and easy.

Another thing about the Outro, i used the Wob Synth, the first Meowsynth Pattern and the pluck Pattern Variation and then the Tape Stop i was talking about earlier

(side note, i really like Serum, it is a very powerful tool and i would highly recommend you get it if you enjoy Synthesizers, i absolutely love this tool)
