piece one –
here in my own film music I’ve began with a chord progression, as well as accompanying chords with a different instrument, with the chords I have a short small melody with the harp.
I then copied that small section and adding to that, I’ve included a subtle bassline with an organ to give a lower tone.
In the middle of the piece I dropped out some instruments to match the scene as in the film it looks out to the landscape and has a feeling of loneliness.
Finishing off the piece, I had all instruments in unison to smoothly finish off
evaluation – overall I feel like it goes well with the movie, the minor key fits the sadness of the scene, and the drop out of the instruments fits the loneliness it presents. What I could have done better is maybe add some more dynamics to this piece like i did with the other, and also could off messed around with the EQ making it a tad softer.
piece 2 –
For my second piece I’ve gone for more ambience, I’ve matched the oboe and strings with a deep ambient bass. but with this piece, I’ve included volume changes.
The strings and ambient bass both progressively gets louder throughout the scene, but I’ve made the oboe have short dips to give small sharp crescendos.
finishing off the piece, it has a quick build up to a subtle drop out of the strings to emphasise the placement of the water bottle, all the while the deep ambient bass lingers.
evaluation –
I think this piece also fits very well with the video, the slow ambient build up matches the eerie environment, and the sudden drop out allows for dialogue and emphasised key moments in the film such as the bottle being slammed. Maybe what I could of done better is add more instrumentation and make the texture a bit thicker.
