The Rise and Fall Of ’70s American Disco (Plan)

  • Time line used 1969, 1971, 1977, 1979, 1980.
    • I will be talking about the stonewall riots in 1969 as a prologue to the essay and a starting point to go from.
    • Talk about the different clubs all around America and the different crowds it had.
    • mention the old law between 2 men could not hold hands and started the riot.
    • Mention in 1971 soul train made its debut and showed black people dancing to disco music soul music which was a big move for disco music.
    • disco wasn’t just made up of the gay community it also involved the Latino and African American community which made the Disco sound, even more, influenced and like through many community’s and was accepted for people to have fun and not worry about anything which helps because of the war in Vietnam which was still in full effect.
    • Songs like stayin’ alive by the Bee Gees, The love I lost by Harold Melvin and Van McCoy’s The hustle which some would argue the sound of disco and made disco what it is.
    • Disco becoming use of to sell products because of its reaches.
    • Mention how Steve Dahl orchestrated the disco demolition night in Chicago. during the break of a baseball game on July 12th 1979.
    • Write about after disco demolition night Disco music was blacklisted from some radio station’s and so was the musicians.
    • Talk briefly about the fashion of disco.
    • Mention the transition with rock musicians to disco like Queen and David Bowie.
    • Talk about how Saturday night live was the Bee Gees first grammy winner when they took home album of the year in 1979.
    • Write about the different sounds of disco in the big cities like Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Miami and Philadelphia.
